In part 2 of the discussion, Prof Maynard opens up about some of the devastatingly terrible things he saw during his time volunteering in Palestine, including the deliberate attempt by the 'Israelis' to dismantle the healthcare infrastructure of Gaza. Tareq also provides insight into life before October 2023 in Palestine, and how we must never forget that the lives of the Palestinians are more than just numbers - each one is an individual story. One of the key areas discussed in part 2 is the despicable use of starvation and famine as a weapon against the Palestinians. "Even if there was unlimited feed getting into Gaza now, there'd be many, many more deaths from malnutrition, because it's gone beyond simply needing food; they need acute medical intervention." "They prefer dying as a shaheed [martyr] from bombing, rather than dying of starvation." We are reminded that what we must fight for in Palestine is not just peace, but justice too.
