How do we structure this mystical body of Christ? And how to people arrive at their structure? How has Rousseau influenced how we do Christianity today? Using the Bible, they show how different structures develop depending on where you go in the New Testament. The Church has always been charismatic (Holy Spirit) and institutional (having structure). From Jesus to the 12 Apostles, the Church expanded and developed. The Church had fellowship, a rich word portraying shared life together. Tax collectors and zealots called by Christ to fellowship together. Today, the Church is to be the same place. A place where we can all come together and fellowship regardless of status, class, or occupation. Drawing on Acts 2:42, they show what the early Church looked like which can be informative for us today. Because the Church isn’t just another club to be a part of, it is the mystical body of Christ in this world where we are bound together by the Spirit.

First, identity the Spirit brings us into the life of the Triune God, where we are known, loved, and secure as sons and daughters—not because we achieve it, but because we belong. Second, meaning instead of striving to invent purpose, the Spirit directs our lives toward what we were made for—loving God and loving others. Third, truth in a world full of confusion and competing voices, Jesus promises that the Spirit will lead us into all truth. But before all of this, there is a deeper starting point: transcendence. To experience any of this, we must step out of a closed, purely material world and into one where God is real, present, and active.
