Think about nurses who look after patients or the Earth that goes round the sun. These are actions that are consistent and factual. We use the present simple to describe: * Habits and routines: "I usually go away at weekends". * General truths and facts: "Water boils at 100 degrees Celsius". * How often we do things: "I get up at 8 o’clock every morning". The structure is straightforward: for I, we, you, they, simply use the base form of the verb (work, go, do). For he, she, it, you'll usually add -s or -es to the verb (works, goes, does). Remember those spelling rules for the -s/-es endings! To ask questions and make negative sentences in the present simple, we use do/does: "Do you speak English?" "I don’t go away very often". Don't forget that does is for he, she, it. Interestingly, we also use the present simple for verbs like promise, apologise, suggest when we are actually doing that action by saying it.
