For the past four years, Borah High School’s Idaho Battle of the Books team—affectionately known as the Big Friendly Slugs—has taken on the challenge of reading a dozen carefully selected books each year in preparation for fierce literary competition. But this isn’t just about numbers or titles. It’s about curiosity, camaraderie, and the kind of dedication that turns reading into a shared adventure. Kristen, Ella, Abby, Conlin, and Camden are more than competitors—they’re a reminder of what it looks like to be fully engaged, joyfully intellectual, and unapologetically themselves. They’re sharp, quick-witted, occasionally goofy, and deeply committed to their reading and each other.
