"Cage Free Theology" is a weekly Bible Q&A discussion with two Baptist, Calvinist, and Premillennial, pastors. As Spurgeon said, there's no need to defend a lion in a cage; simply open the cage door and the lion will fend for itself! We don't defend a preconceived system of theology, we just let the Bible speak for itself, and we go wherever a literal hermeneutic takes us.The hosts are pastors Clint Archer (MDiv, ThM, DMin, PhD) and Will Brannon (MDiv, DMin), based at Christ Fellowship Baptist Church in Mobile, Alabama. They both trained at The Master's Seminary and Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, and between the two of them they have nearly 30 years of full-time ministry experience. Much of that has involved fielding questions from new believers, old believers, and unbelievers, and then sharing what the Bible has to say on a wide array of topics. They will cover subjects with their engaging and light-hearted banter, including explaining theology, offering interpretations of various difficult Bible passages, discussing counseling scenarios, and even the nuts and bolts of ministry and expository preaching. (Clint occasionally digresses about how animals should live cage-free while Will reminds him of the appeal of meat!) Each episode addresses one main question, without rambling or irrelevant interjections, to equip listeners to answer questions they have, or questions they get asked by friends. Subscribers get to send in their questions too!Jesus came to set us free, so beware of manmade cages!

Episode #072: What Types Of Prayer Does God Answer?

Have you ever wondered if God hears everyone's prayers, or why we should even pray if He is already completely sovereign over the future?  Exactly what types of prayers does God answer?  Is prayer effective?  Those questions and more in today's episode of Cage Free Theology. Today our hosts Clint Archer and Will Brannon take a dive into the mechanics, motives, and heart behind effective prayer. Moving past the standard "church prayer list"—which is often dominated by temporary physical needs—Clint and Will look at the patterns of scripture to uncover what God truly desires to hear from His children. In this episode, Clint and Will cover:      -If God responds to the prayers of unbelievers, and what makes the prayers of a believer uniquely intimate.      -How our prayers interact with God's ordained plans, and whether prayer can actually "change" things from our human perspective.      -Why shifting our prayers from purely physical healing to eternal, spiritual growth (like Paul's prayer in Colossians 1) aligns us with God's will.      -Striking the perfect balance between approaching God as a loving Father and remembering the reverence due to Him as Creator.      -Clint shares personal stories of unexpected answered prayers and offers resource recommendations for prayer life. If you've ever felt like your prayers are hitting a ceiling, or you just want to learn how to "pray the scriptures" back to God, this episode offers the theological framework and practical steps to transform your intentional quiet time. ====================================  👇 Jump to moments (chapters): 0:57 – Does God Hear the Prayers of Unbelievers? 2:10 – The Prayers of the Wicked 3:44 – Can a Believer’s Prayers Be Hindered? episode Episode #071: Does God Discipline Believers? cover

Episode #071: Does God Discipline Believers?

When you hear that God "disciplines" or even "flogs" His children, does it make you uncomfortable? If Romans 8:1 says there is no condemnation for those in Christ Jesus, how do we make sense of a God who corrects us?  "The way that you know you’re a child of God is that He doesn’t just leave you in your sin... because He loves you, He brings you back." In this episode of Cage-Free Theology, Clint and Will dive deep into Hebrews 12 and 1 Corinthians 11 to unpack a truth that might catch you off guard: God’s discipline is not an expression of His wrath, but a profound proof of His love. Main points in this Episode:      -Discipline vs. Condemnation: Why condemnation destroys, but discipline builds up.      -Trials vs. Discipline: How to discern if your suffering is a natural consequence meant to "scalpel out" a hidden sin, or simply a trial meant to mature your faith (and why you shouldn't play judge over someone else's suffering!).      -The "Sin Unto Death": The hosts tackle a notoriously difficult passage in 1 John 5, debating whether it refers to physical consequences of sin or eternal apostasy—and what it means for how we pray for those who wander. If you’ve ever gone through a dark season and wondered, "What did I do to deserve this?" or if you are struggling to see how a loving Heavenly Father allows His children to face painful consequences, this episode is a liberating reminder that God never leaves His children to pull themselves away into destruction. ====================================  👇 Jump to moments (chapters): 0:25 – Does God Discipline Believers? episode Episode #070: How Should Christians Think About Images Of Jesus? cover

Episode #070: How Should Christians Think About Images Of Jesus?

Is it a violation of the Ten Commandments to look at a face and call it "Jesus"? In this episode of Cage Free Theology, Clint Archer and Will Brannon discuss the complex and often controversial question of how Christians should think about images of Jesus. From the cinematic depictions in The Chosen and The Passion of the Christ to the mysterious origins of the Shroud of Turin, the duo explores whether visual representations of Christ constitute idolatry or serve as helpful tools for the faithful. Key topics in today's episode:    -The Shroud of Turin: A look at the scientific mysteries and the potential "photograph" of the   resurrection.    -Media & Movies: The pitfalls of picturing Jim Caviezel or Jonathan Roumie during prayer.    -Icons vs. Art: Understanding the difference between a helpful visual reminder and an "idolatrous portal" or medium for worship.     -The Sacred vs. The Object: Why we treat our Bibles with respect, yet must avoid treating physical objects as having inherent spiritual power. Whether you have a sensitive conscience regarding religious art or are curious about the history of Christian icons, this episode provides a grounded, biblical perspective on balancing visual aids with worshiping in "spirit and truth." ====================================  👇 Jump to moments (chapters): 0:00 – How should we think about images of Jesus? 0:43 – The Second Commandment 1:44 – The Shroud of Turin 2:55 – Trillions of Watts 5:15 – The danger of picturing actors during prayer 7:00 – Why Jesus having a physical face changed the rules 12:15 – What about nativity scenes? 13:00 – Fact Check: Is there really a "Jesus" in the cake? 15:20 – Portals and Wormholes

episode Episode #069: Is War Ever Just? The Just War Theory cover

Episode #069: Is War Ever Just? The Just War Theory

In this episode of Cage-Free Theology, Clint Archer and Will Brannon tackle a complex ethical dilemma within the Christian faith: Is war ever just?  While war is always a result of a fallen world, the guys explore the historical and biblical framework known as Just War Theory. From the ancient writings of Augustine and Aquinas to modern-day applications in the military and personal self-defense, this conversation dives deep into the principles that govern when a nation should go to war (Jus ad bellum) and how that war should be conducted (Jus in bello). Key Discussion Points:      -The Framework of Justice: Breaking down the seven core principles of Just War, including just cause, last resort, and competent authority.      -Proportionality & Success: Why a just war requires a realistic definition of "success" and a commitment to minimizing civilian casualties.      -Christians in the Military: Can a believer serve in the armed forces with a clear conscience? Clint and Will discuss the role of humility and the "higher authority" of God’s Word.      -Pacifism vs. Resistance: A look at the biblical case for and against absolute non-resistance. Is "turning the other cheek" a command for all of life or specifically for religious persecution?      -Personal Self-Defense: Drawing from Exodus 22 and modern self-defense training (like Krav Maga), the Clint & Will discuss the distinction between protecting property and protecting life. Whether you're struggling with the headlines of global conflict or wondering how to apply Jesus’s teachings on peace to a violent world, this episode offers a grounded, theological perspective on the "sword" given to governing authorities. ====================================  👇 Jump to moments (chapters): 0:00 – Is War Ever Just? 0:38 – Defining Just War Theory 1:43 – The Framework vs.The Event 3:24 – Jus ad bellum 4:30 – Just Cause 6:55 – Last Resort 8:04 – Competent Authority 11:00 – Proportionality 13:00 – Probability of Success 15:47 – Jus in bello 18:44 – Can a Christian serve in the military? episode Episode #068: Do Aliens Fit Into Christian Theology? cover

Episode #068: Do Aliens Fit Into Christian Theology?

Are we alone in the universe, or is the "pale blue dot" just one of many inhabited worlds? In this episode of Cage Free Theology, Clint and Will explore if the existence of aliens is compatible with a Biblical worldview. The guys dive into the theology of extraterrestrial life, discussing everything from Ezekiel's wheels and UFOs in the Bible to whether aliens are actually demonic spirits or inter-dimensional beings. The hosts move past the pop-culture tropes to ask the hard theological questions: If aliens exist, were they created during the creation week? Does the "Image of God" apply to non-human intelligence? And perhaps most importantly, would Jesus have to die for a Martian? Key Discussion Points      -UFOs in the Bible? A deep dive into the "technology" of Ezekiel’s wheels and Elijah’s chariot of fire. Are these ancient alien encounters or something much more heavenly?      -The Evolutionary Trap: Why the "vastness of the universe" argument often relies on non-Christian premises—and how a sovereign God could create billions of stars just for "wallpaper."      -The Image of God (Imago Dei): Exploring why intelligence and morality don't automatically grant "image-bearer" status, and why humans remain the unique stewards of Earth.      -Interdimensional vs. Extraterrestrial: A critical look at the "unseen realm." Could modern UFO phenomena actually be demonic activity disguised as advanced technology?            -The "Alien Disclosure" Prep: Why Christians shouldn't be shaken by government files or AI-generated "evidence," and how the Gospel prepares us for any "strange new things." Don’t let your theology stay grounded. Join Clint and Will as they take every thought captive—even the ones from outer space. ====================================  👇 Jump to moments (chapters): 0:48 – Why talk about aliens on a theology podcast? 3:08 – The guys' favorite alien movies 4:36 – What do we mean by "Extraterrestrial"? 6:26 – Does the Bible mention aliens? Addressing Ezekiel’s Vision 8:18 – UFOs or Cherubim?  11:15 – "God made the worlds" Hebrews 11:3 12:28 – Ancient technology or spiritual transport? 14:37 – Do angels use "technology"? 16:48 – The "Vastness" Argument: If the universe is huge, must life exist? 21:48 – Alien intelligence vs the "Image of God" 26:33 – So, did Jesus die for aliens? 31:06 –Should we trust government "evidence"? 35:50 – UFOs or fallen spirits 42:16 – Why Christians shouldn't fear an "invasion"

En fantastisk app med et enormt stort udvalg af spændende podcasts. Podimo formår virkelig at lave godt indhold, der takler de lidt mere svære emner. At der så også er lydbøger oveni til en billig pris, gør at det er blevet min favorit app.
