Pride is sneaky. It shows up in ways we don’t always notice, but it slowly kills our relationship with Jesus, damages our friendships, and weakens the community around us. In Luke 18:9–14, Jesus tells a powerful parable about a Pharisee and a tax collector. On the surface, it’s a simple story, but it completely flips our idea of what it means to be right with God.In this message, Pastor Carlos Fernandez shares how pride isolates us, blinds us, and makes us compare ourselves to others while pointing to our own works instead of what Christ has already done. The Pharisee in the story looks good on the outside, but his prayer is really about himself. The tax collector, on the other hand, shows humility. He keeps his distance, lowers his eyes, beats his chest in desperation, and cries out for mercy. Jesus makes it clear that this man, not the Pharisee, went home right with God.This isn’t just a story about two men in a temple. It’s a story about us. Love Like Jesus: The Foundation of True Manhood

What makes a man truly godly? Is it his strength, his leadership, or his ability to provide and protect? Those things matter — but according to Scripture, none of it works the way it should if it isn’t rooted in love. In this message, Pastor Carlos Fernandez from CrossPoint City Church unpacks what he calls the most important mark of biblical manhood: love. Without love, leadership becomes pride. Provision turns into performance. Protection becomes control. Love is what keeps everything in its right place. Through 1 Corinthians 13 and Matthew 22, Pastor Carlos walks men through three powerful truths that redefine what it means to be a man of God. First, you must experience the love of God for yourself. It’s not enough to hear about Jesus — you need to encounter Him personally. The Gospel isn’t about what you can do to reach God; it’s about what God did to reach you. Jesus left heaven, took on human flesh, and carried the weight of your sin because His love was stronger than the nails that held Him to the cross. Second, you are called to love God with your whole life. Not part of it. Not just on Sundays. Jesus said to love God with all your heart, soul, and mind — meaning your emotions, your identity, and your thoughts all belong to Him. Loving God isn’t a part-time commitment. It’s full-time surrender. It’s choosing to let Him lead every decision, desire, and dream. Finally, true manhood shows up when you love others out of the overflow of your relationship with God. Your family, your coworkers, your friends, even strangers — they all deserve to see the love of Jesus through the way you live. The reason you love is because He first loved you. The reason you forgive is because you’ve been forgiven. The reason you show up for people is because God never stopped showing up for you. If we get this right — if men begin to love like Jesus — it will change everything. Our homes will look different. Our churches will grow stronger. Our communities will feel the impact of men who live out the love of God daily. The Start of Something New // Mark 1:1-15

Mark jumps right in and shows us the start of the good news of Jesus. John prepares the way, Jesus gets baptized and the Father calls Him loved, then He’s tested in the wilderness before stepping into His mission: “Repent and believe the gospel.” This is the start of something new—not just for Jesus’ ministry, but for us. God’s love comes before we do anything, Jesus knows what it’s like to be tested, and now His mission is our mission.
