How do our ears see? Perhaps in a brighter, more dynamic technicolour than our eyes can begin to imagine. Ears Have Eyes is an auditory exhibition space for sound art on the radio. Artists respond to a monthly theme, making new compositions and sharing existing sound artworks on CJSW’s radio waves. Ears Have Eyes invites local, national, and international artists to share auditory aesthetics, spatial soundscapes, spoken word, experimental music, and other recorded media.

Ears Have Eyes - Episode May 13, 2026

THE SOUND OF HOPE: return of the light (2nd annual edition) This month, we’re exploring THE SOUND OF HOPE. Our second annual hope episode started with three brief expressions of hopeful sounds from Cristian Argento, Susan Clarahan, Sean Meggeson, and Roddie Cat. Many of the sound artists on today’s program consider hope as a relational feeling, a compulsion of resistance against waves of darkness and oppression – hope as an antithesis, as a vaccine against misery, as an oasis where the future remains not just possible, but bright. ARTISTS: 53cm Brigitte Haas Cristian Argento Gero von Randow Leonie Roessler Massy Emond Sam Rowe Sean Meggeson Shih Lin Hung Tyler Delaney Reed This program is co-hosted by Caitlind r.c. Brown & Wayne Garrett, and curated and edited by Caitlind Brown. Thanks to CJSW, Golden Co-Op Radio, and NAISA for supporting this show! GRIEF: part 2 This is Part 2 of our GRIEF episode. Many of the works on today’s program commemorate those who have transitioned beyond life, but our GRIEF episode explores something broader and deeper than death. There is a sublingual thread tying the rawest expressions of grief with the creation of sound. There are no words strong enough to support the weight of grief. Grief is something you feel involuntarily, almost like an automatic response – a sound that leaks out of you. It is beyond our control or conscious understanding. And yet we all share this human experience. Grief is the price we pay for love. Ears Have Eyes - Episode March 11, 2026

GRIEF: in it March is one of the worst months in Calgary. Winter darkness still falls across the land, but gone is the glittering white twinkle of those early snow-falls. We are in the long, interminable, muddy stretch towards Spring. This is a particularly dangerous time for human creatures: statistically, the highest rates of death in Canada transpire between December and March each year. On a philosophical level, March marks a pre-Spring mourning unfolding in each of us – grief as an expression of radical change. NUM: a feature For the first episode of 2026, we’re shifting our focus to highlight one local duo, NUM. Comprised of sound artists, electroacoustic musicians, and multimedia artists, Maryam Sirvan and Milad Bagheri, NUM originated in Northern Iran. After studying in Georgia, Maryam & Milad moved to Calgary to continue their academic explorations several years ago. At the end of 2025, they released an album called “Seas Coming for Me.” This album was recorded at the National Music Centre with support from Calgary Arts Development. Our episode today follows Maryam & Milad’s journey through sound – music as a resistance, a collaborative life-long action, and a gateway to new worlds. We’re featuring work from their latest album, alongside older work that contextualizes this album.
