episode Why Didn't Anybody Teach Us About Juneteenth? cover

Why Didn't Anybody Teach Us About Juneteenth?

Two retired Army veterans, fathers, and Black men ask a simple question: How did we grow up in America and barely know anything about Juneteenth? In this episode, Tommie and Lance talk about growing up Black in America in the Midwest...and neither of us remembers being taught much about Juneteenth. Not in school. Not in church. Not in everyday conversations. Years later, after discovering Juneteenth for ourselves, we started asking questions about what we knew, what we didn’t know, and why some parts of Black history seemed to receive far less attention than others. In this episode of Four Titles, One Truth, we discuss our personal experiences learning about Juneteenth, what the holiday means to us today, how becoming a federal holiday changed public awareness, and why conversations about history still matter. This isn’t a history lesson. It’s an honest conversation between two Black men, fathers, husbands, veterans, and lifelong learners trying to understand a part of American history they wish they had known sooner. In This Episode: * Our first memories of hearing about Juneteenth * Why neither of us learned much about it growing up * Black history topics we remember being taught * What changed after Juneteenth became a federal holiday * Patriotism, service, and understanding history * Why some stories are remembered and others forgotten Juneteenth, Juneteenth history, Black history, Black history month, African American history, Black culture, American history, history education, race in America, Black fathers, Black men, military veterans, veteran podcast, fatherhood podcast, husband podcast, Four Titles One Truth, Tommie Jones, Lance Taylor, Juneteenth federal holiday, Black community, civil rights history, freedom day, emancipation, Black voices, cultural history, history conversation, podcast for men, military leadership, Black perspectives, Juneteenth discussion

We Really Thought This Was Cool? | The Stuff We Thought Was Cool Growing Up

Remember backward hats, giant shorts, loud bass systems, tube socks, and movies we thought were classics? Yeah…we need to talk about it. In this episode of Four Titles, One Truth, Tommie and Lance take a break from heavy conversations and look back at the trends, styles, habits, and moments we were convinced made us cool growing up…that now make absolutely no sense. From backward hats, baggy shorts, loud bass systems, and tube socks…to old movies, TV shows, and “old man habits” we used to laugh at, this conversation is full of nostalgia, laughter, and the realization that aging slowly turns all of us into our parents. The guys also talk about things today’s generation would never understand, trends they secretly wish would come back, and why every generation eventually looks back and wonders: “What were we thinking?” If you grew up in the 80s or 90s… this episode is for you. four titles one truth, nostalgia podcast, 80s nostalgia, 90s nostalgia, growing up in the 90s, black podcast, funny podcast, generational podcast, old school trends, things we thought were cool, 90s fashion, old school memories, black culture podcast, lifestyle podcast, military veterans podcast, fathers podcast, husbands podcast, funny conversation podcast, backward hats, loud bass systems, old man habits, Gen X podcast, aging humor, comedy conversation podcast, tube socks, 90s culture, growing up black in the 80s and 90s
