episode Jonathan Karlsson: Breaking p*rn addiction, Gaming addiction, Recreation a religious duty | EP 7 cover

Jonathan Karlsson: Breaking p*rn addiction, Gaming addiction, Recreation a religious duty | EP 7

In this episode of the Holy Men Club podcast I’m having a conversation with Jonathan Karlsson. Jonathan is a pastor, church planter, father, but most relevant for this episode, he too has struggled with addictions to pornography and gaming. These addictions are very prevalent in our Western society, especially among men. I know that many men want to break free from their porn addiction, but feel stuck. That’s why we will be talking about practical action steps that have helped us that you can directly implement in your life to start gaining victories. Typically we don’t hear so much talk about gaming, because it’s often accepted in Christian circles. But is this right? Especially in our pursuit to learn to live as holy men, can gaming be a part of that? With this industry making more money than the music and movie industry combined, and its rapidly growing influence, it’s a conversation worth having. This launches us into a broader topic of different sorts of entertainment and amusement. What are some principles that we should consider when playing video games, engage in pleasure seeking, and how we spend our time. 1:12 - "Bad porn is only bad for you if you let it be" 6:09 - Evolution vs creation arguments converted me 13:25 - How Jesus spoke against watching porn 16:16 - Not watching porn is a joke 24:09 - Betting to lose virginity before 20 28:00 - Porn part of identity 32:26 - Increased sexual appetite can destroy relationships 39:11 - Action steps to break free from porn addiction 50:52 - You are not your sin 57:09 - Gaming addiction & World of Warcraft 1:06:09 - Resting is a religious duty 1:09:25 - Principles for amusement 1:20:33 - The best recreation / amusement we can engage in 1:28:10 - 3 best replacements for addictions 1:36:32 - Sevvie Zone: The danger of overworking (for God)

Adrian K. Bjerkan: The "Angry God" of the Old Testament, Canaanites & Genocides, Our Right to Life | EP 6

In this episode of the Holy Men Club podcast I’m having a conversation with Adrian Karlsson. I once heard him preach a sermon about this topic and I knew, I need to invite him for this episode. Working as a X-ray technician, he is used to needing to see through things to see what’s behind the superficial layer. And in our conversation we’re doing exactly that. Many see Jesus in the New Testament as a God of compassion and love. But the Old Testament seems to portray a very different God, one that threatens, is angry, has people killed. While atheists and non-believers use those portions of the Bible to attack Christianity, many Christians prefer to ignore these parts. But once we see through the superficial layer, with some principles that we’ll talk about, we can begin to understand even the most difficult stories in the Old Testament, and reconcile the, seemingly, two different Gods. We’re touching on many topics such as why there is evil in the world, the concept of having a right to live, and how struggling and having questions with all this is a sign of growth. 1:24 - Loving God vs Liking God 8:48 - Reclaiming the Old Testament 15:30 - Jesus is the God of the Old Testament? 24:13 - What is God truly like? 29:53 - God's "harshness" in the Old Testament explained (Canananites, Achan, etc) 38:40 - Do we have a right to life? 46:07 - The loving way God treats unbelievers 54:02 - How to respond to unbeliever's questions / accusations 58:36 - What alternatives does God have to fight the devil & sin? 1:09:07 - Practical tips to interpret "troubling" verses / stories 1:11:25 - Literature recommendations 1:14:09 - How you see God will shape everything in your life 1:22:18 - Sevvie Zone: Pharisees did everything right, but hated God

episode Tommy Berglund: Biblical masculinity, LGBTQIA+, Post-modernism | Ep 5 cover

Tommy Berglund: Biblical masculinity, LGBTQIA+, Post-modernism | Ep 5

In this episode of the Holy Men Club podcast I’m having a conversation with Tommy Berglund. Tommy is an elder, he’s a preacher, a car mechanic and overall handyman and at the time of recording this episode, he just became a grand father. We are discussing an incredibly important topic today and that is Biblical masculinity and identity. How can we live as men of God, and what does that even look like in our time. We cannot talk about this topic without touching on feminism, the LGBTQIA+ movement and the Western attacks on the Biblical gender roles. Controversial and sensitive topics, it feels like a landmine. But I believe this conversation will help us better understand God’s calling for us as men and leaders today. 0:59 - Fatherhood made me understand manhood 4:59 - From rally driver to converted Christian 20:35 - Post-modernism is removing the standards for safety 28:16 - The spiritual war behind post-modernism 38:09 - The man is the "houseband" 41:45 - Gender dysphoria & feelings over truth 48:11 - Biblical gender roles 1:01:49 - Toxic masculinity, gender identity, John Money 1:12:54 - How to start living as a man of God 1:22:16 - How do we respond to our confused culture? 1:29:13 - Sevvie Zone: Allow God to change you

episode How can common Christians live holy lives? 3 Habits for Holiness - Cedric Gourmaud | Ep 4 cover

How can common Christians live holy lives? 3 Habits for Holiness - Cedric Gourmaud | Ep 4

In this episode of the Holy Men Club podcast I’m having a conversation with Cedric Gourmaud. Cedric is a humble French guy married to a Norwegian girl, he’s an engineer, and now works as a sales person for a secular company. Cedric is like most of us. But he is doing some things in his Christian life that we should pay attention to. There’s three habits that touch on topics like media, discipline and giving Bible studies. When you implement these three habits, you will elevate your Christian experience, and take some big steps forward in your journey to learn to live as a holy man in a Western culture. But before we get to that, we’re discussing the idea of holiness. What is that, can we achieve it as ordinary Christian men, and why is it important? 00:58 - Why the Holy Men Club's logo is a bow tie 03:45 - Holiness the universal standard 10:31 - How mindset affects the pursuit of holiness 21:42 - Being tormented by seeing the evil in the world 25:58 - The influence of music on feelings 41:54 - Striving for the highest standards 46:56 - Habit 1: Filter what you let into your mind 1:12:16 - Habit 2: Discipline, communication with God isn't easy 1:30:19 - How to stay disciplined in spiritual growth 1:39:54 - Habit 3: Act on what you learn and know 2:05:43 - Sevvie Zone: Question why you believe what you believe, Make holiness urgent and common

En fantastisk app med et enormt stort udvalg af spændende podcasts. Podimo formår virkelig at lave godt indhold, der takler de lidt mere svære emner. At der så også er lydbøger oveni til en billig pris, gør at det er blevet min favorit app.
