A Million Tears is a mighty epic, a tale of love and hate, murder and suicide, poverty and wealth - this is a story of a family whose devotion for each other helps them to succeed where others fail. Members Reviews: Great book Had to write and say how much I enjoyed this book. Family sagas are a favorite of mine and this one did not disappoint. My only criticism would be that it had a pretty slow start and I almost stopped reading. Decided to give it a few more pages and am really glad I did. Hope to read more by this author. A difficult book to review The first half of this book deserves 5 stars. The author did a lot of research to write this book, and there are many short stories within one. When I read past the second half, I couldn't go on, as it seemed to me like it was going no where. I think this author is an excellent writer -- but just needs to wrap it up a little tighter, and sooner. There are many interesting details in this book, and most of it was very interesting. I really wanted to give it 5 stars, but when you get tired of reading the book, I don't think it should have five, I am sorry to say. Where is Harvard?? Just reread this book and plan to RE-read the next three and perhaps then buy the 5th installment. Have them (first 4) on my Kindle. I may have MISSED this the first time but there is ONE very LARGE factual BOO BOO in the middle of this one. David (after college in what appeared to be "Ohio State" or an early version of it) plans to go to Harvard. (yes, Harvard). The author seems to BELIEVE that that veritable institution is in New Haven Ct. I know MORE than a few Yalies that would consider that (boo boo) a capital crime. Russ. Willington Ct. Paul Henke is a wonderful author. I can't wait to read the second book in this series. I have read hundreds of books in my lifetime. I seldom remember an author's name I'm ashamed to say but Paul Henke is one name that I will remember. I just finished reading "A Million Tears" and can't wait to start "The Tears of War and Peace". I do believe I have just discovered my favorite author. This is my first review I've ever submitted and I just had to spread the news. No matter what genre you generally favor, the story of life is usually a good read for anyone. Read it! wow. bought next book already. An amazing historical family saga. It was hard to put down at times. I view history from a different perspective in some aspects, but did not feel forced to accept the writer's point of view as it was in context with the character's life experiences. I almost quit the book in the first 3 chapters as I was not sure it would hold my interest as I normally avoid this genre. I am so glad I didn't quit. I have come to love this family and just bought the next in the series.

What he finds instead is a mysterious priestess looking for him, his innate ability to fight like a demi-god, and plenty of trouble. In the era of Augustus, the borders of River Rhenus are waiting for a change. While the Marcomanni have an uneasy peace with Rome, Rome is turning its eye to the north. The feuds of two Goth lords, Bero and Hulderic, thrust Adalwulf in a desperate quest that will determine not only his future, the fate of a high-born enemy, and the life of a woman he loves, but also the future of the whole Marcomanni tribe. Will Adalwulf succeed in his quest of the Two Swords, even when he has to deal with Leuthard, the beastly champion of the Marcomanni, a strange band of mercenaries led by a murderer, and Roman traitors? Members Reviews: This author is the real deal! Finally, a set of books worth reading! If you love the sort of historical fiction that is gritty, personal, but vibrant with human connection and story then this author, and these books, will be time well spent reading. There is a flow and voice to this work that you do not often find. Longward has the ability to make an historical piece of fiction feel immediate and real. I can't wait to see what he writes next. This was a fun read like all Mr This was a fun read like all Mr. Longward's books. It makes it hard to put the book down. The time period is very interesting and the characters are well developed. It is almost like you are right there with them. Now I have to wait for the next books to come out! Good reading entertainment, though a little bloody. Liked the character development, and the many changes of pace in the story. And it fits my ideas of how the ancient Germans lived, and died. Warriors will like this story. Well written with lots of historical references--don't know if it's approaching truth but I don't care--a good read for those of us who might have been warriors in a past life as well as today. Well written This book was well written and keeps the story fresh at every turn. It makes one's imagination come alive putting you in the story.

English Passengers Audiobook by Matthew Kneale

Title: English Passengers Subtitle: A Novel Author: Matthew Kneale Narrator: Gerard Doyle, Davina Porter, Simon Prebble, Gianfranco Negroponte, Patrick Tull, Jenny Sterlin, Ron Keith Format: Unabridged Length: 20 hrs and 27 mins Language: English Release date: 12-06-17 Publisher: Recorded Books Ratings: 5 of 5 out of 2 votes Genres: Fiction, Historical Publisher's Summary: It is 1857, and Reverend Geoffrey Wilson has departed England to prove the literal truth of the Bible. The expedition heads towards Tasmania, where he is convinced he will find the real Garden of Eden. But the other passengers have their own agendas. Dr Potter is developing a sinister thesis, and the ship is crewed by smugglers of contraband brandy and tobacco. As the English passengers near Peevay's land, their bizarre notions become painfully at odds with reality. Their destination is no Eden but a world of hunting parties and colonial ethnic cleansing. A mighty collision is approaching.... Members Reviews: I am now so much better informed about the early days of this island including ... When I first picked up this novel, i knew almost nothing about Tasmania not really even its exact location. I am now so much better informed about the early days of this island including its convict settlement at Port Arthur, the British settlers and of course, the sad story of the genocide and eventual extermination of the aborigine population. And, I must say, as sad as that story is , this novel was a delightful and informative read. It is one of the best plotted and well written books that i have read in years. The continuous turns of plots and the intruiguing interplay of the characters voices made the book a delight to read and one I didnât want to put down. It Certainly ranks up in the top twenty of my most favorite novels. Makes you laugh and then makes you think! Great mix of humour and serious historical perspective. Interesting that the plot is seen from many points-of-view, which really makes you see things very differently. More than that, it is an excellent and humorous romp from the Isle of Man to Tasmania and back. To give a high accolade, I recommended it to two friends at lunch yesterday - I rarely do that! Best appreciated as a listen-to for the sake of hearing ... Best appreciated as a listen-to for the sake of hearing all the different language styles and accents. Each character narrates his own story and readers are wonderful. Author presents many contemporary issues although actual story is set during colonization of Australia. A work both thought-provoking and well written, author won Whitbread Prize for this novel. Four Stars Unique point of view and well worth consideration Enjoyed it! Great story, really enjoyed the different characters and the way the told their story. Loved the Captain! The descriptions were so real you felt like you were there.

The Revolution of the Moon Audiobook by Andrea Camilleri, Stephen Sartarelli - translator

Please visit https://thebookvoice.com/podcasts/audiobook/278/ [https://thebookvoice.com/podcasts/audiobook/278/] to download full audiobooks of your choice for free. Title: The Revolution of the Moon Author: Andrea Camilleri, Stephen Sartarelli - translator Narrator: Grover Gardner Format: Unabridged Length: 6 hrs and 53 mins Language: English Release date: 11-28-17 Publisher: Blackstone Audio, Inc. Ratings: 4 of 5 out of 5 votes Genres: Fiction, Historical Publisher's Summary: From the author of the Inspector Montalbano series comes the remarkable account of an exceptional woman who rises to power in 17th-century Sicily and brings about sweeping changes that threaten the iron-fisted patriarchy, before being cast out in a coup after only 27 days. Sicily, April 16, 1677. From his deathbed, Charles III's viceroy, don Angel de Guzmàn, marquis of Castel de Roderigo, names his wife, donna Eleonora, as his successor. Eleonora di Mora is a highly intelligent and capable woman who immediately applies her political acumen to heal the scarred soul of Palermo, a city afflicted by poverty, misery, and the frequent uprisings they entail. The marquise implements measures that include lowering the price of bread, reducing taxes for large families, reopening women's care facilities, and establishing stipends for young couples wishing to marry - all measures that were considered seditious by the conservative city fathers and by the Church. The machinations of powerful men soon result as donna Eleonora, whom the Church sees as a dangerous revolutionary, is recalled to Spain. Her rule lasted 27 days - one cycle of the moon. Based on a true story, Camilleri's gripping and richly imagined novel tells the story of a woman whose courage and political vision is tested at every step by misogyny and reactionary conservatism. Members Reviews: Terribly amateurish storytelling I thought I would chance an unrated new release- unfortunately I really cant give this more than a two star rating, the writing is embarrassingly awful. The narrative jumps around, the characters regularly sound like they inhabit 21st century New York and the heroines mixture of Spanish and English is painful.

En fantastisk app med et enormt stort udvalg af spændende podcasts. Podimo formår virkelig at lave godt indhold, der takler de lidt mere svære emner. At der så også er lydbøger oveni til en billig pris, gør at det er blevet min favorit app.
