Carol Pollock is a nephrologist at the Royal North Shore Hospital in Sydney, one of the few women who carved out successful careers as medical specialists during the 1980s. Throughout her career, Carol has had access to some of the most significant leaders in her field, many of whom were passionate about advancing women in medicine, including Dr. Priscilla Kincaid-Smith and John Mahoney. Nurturing the Passion: Cindy Briscoe and Tina Chawner

Cindy Briscoe has moved through a broad range of experiences in the Commonwealth public service — from IT to corporate services, policy and law enforcement. She is currently a Deputy Secretary and Chief Operating Officer in the Department of Agriculture, Water and the Environment. It was during her time in border protection that she chaired WILES mentoring program and where and first met Tina Chawner. Tina carved out a highly successful career in the public sector in the United Kingdom. After moving to Australia with her husband, Tina had to start again with no professional networks to support her. She is now People & Organisation Change Specialist at PwC. Cindy and Tina discuss how difficult it can be to change career paths — or find a career at all — without a strong network, and how they helped bring the best out of each other, both as friends and as mentor/mentees. Friends Can Be Mentors: Kim Rubenstein and Larissa Halonkin

Kim Rubenstein is Professor and Director of the Centre for International and Public Law at the Australian National University. Larissa Halonkin is a legal researcher who first met Kim at university, with Kim her teacher. Larissa later worked with Kim as her Research Assistant where a deep friendship blossomed between those two women and their families. Mentoring Matters: John Merritt

John Merritt is one of the great leaders in advancing women in leadership and achieving gender equality in the workplace. Currently he is Board Chair at Worksafe Victoria.
