episode Hamburg – Sternschanze cover

Hamburg – Sternschanze

A stroll through the coolest district in the city: our tips for the Schanzenviertel You won't find so many 'places to go' in any other part of the city: in the Schanzenviertel, you can enjoy a relaxed coffee on the piazza on Schulterblatt during the day - and then a Caipi & co. in the evening. You can find cool clothes stores in Susannenstraße or Schanzenstraße and of course in the adjacent Karoviertel in Marktstraße. Here are all the places and tips that we introduce to you in this episode: * The piazza on the Schulterblatt stretches along the Schulterblatt, between Susannenstraße and Rosenhofstraße. Here you will find many cafés and bars. * Directly opposite the piazza is the Rote Flora (house number 71). * In this episode, we also recommend the Neuer Pferdemarkt… * … and the adjacent Schlachthof area. There you will find, for example, the Knust concert club (Neuer Kamp 30, https://knusthamburg.de [https://knusthamburg.de]) or the Cohen + Dobernigg bookshop (Sternstraße 4, www.codobuch.de) [http://www.codobuch.de)]. And these tips were contributed by OMR founder Philipp Westermeyer: * Café: Pallas (Neuer Pferdemarkt 13) * Bar: Pepironcino (Wohlwillstraße 49, pepironcino.de) * Store: Mojo Store (Kampstraße 11) * Restaurant: Bullerei (Lagerstraße 34b, bullerei.com) * Favorite street: Beckstraße Did you like this episode? Hamburg – the green city

Three special parks in Hamburg that we can recommend to you No other city in Germany has as many parks as Hamburg. These include the large, well-known parks such as north of the Alster, the Stadtpark with its own bathing lake and Hamburg's planetarium in the west, the Volkspark, very close to the HSV stadium south of the Elbe, in Wilhelmsburg, the large Inselpark, which was completely redesigned around 10 years ago for the International Garden Show. But in this episode, we introduce you to three parks that are a little more hidden - and have their very own history. Wohlers Park: Norderreihe 2, 22767 Hamburg Baakenpark: Baakenallee, 20457 Hamburg Jenischpark: Baron-Voght-Straße 50, 22609 Hamburg Here are also the links to the museums in Jenischpark that we are talking about in this episode: Jenisch House: https://www.shmh.de/jenisch-haus/ [https://www.shmh.de/jenisch-haus/] Ernst Barlach House: https://www.barlach-haus.de/ [https://www.barlach-haus.de/] Bargheer Museum: https://bargheer-museum.de/ [https://bargheer-museum.de/] Did you like this episode? episode Hamburg – the Museum of Arts and Crafts cover

Hamburg – the Museum of Arts and Crafts

Three rooms in the "Museum für Kunst und Gewerbe" that you should visit "No exhibition venue in Hamburg is opening up as fearlessly as the Museum für Kunst und Gewerbe," wrote the weekly newspaper Die Zeit in May 2024. In fact, the museum right next to Hamburg's main train station continues to cause a sensation: * With its exciting, often very unusual exhibitions on famous designers, social issues or cultures from all over the world. You can find the latest information on the museum's website: https://www.mkg-hamburg.de/ [https://www.mkg-hamburg.de/] * With the sustainability initiative "Elf zu Null", which ten other Hamburg museums have joined in order to make the city's cultural sector more climate-neutral. Find out more: https://www.mkg-hamburg.de/elf-zu-null [https://www.mkg-hamburg.de/elf-zu-null] * With very special rooms: entire ensembles (historic farmhouse parlors, a Japanese teahouse or the Spiegel canteen from the 1960s) are part of the collection and, since 2020, there has been a room on the first floor called "Freiraum" that anyone can use - without paying admission. We introduce you to three rooms in this museum that are worth a closer look and ask Hamburg designer Eva Marguerre from Studio Besau-Marguerre why she gave the foyer of the building very special colors. Here you can find out more about the work of Studio Besau-Marguerre, who also designed the interior of the Elbphilharmonie: https://www.besau-marguerre.de/ [https://www.besau-marguerre.de/] The Museum für Kunst und Gewerbe is located on Steintorplatz in the immediate vicinity of Hamburg Central Station. The museum is open daily except Mondays from 10 am to 6 pm, Thursdays until 9 pm. Did you like this episode? Then please leave us a rating and a comment and follow our podcast! episode Hamburg – Old Elbe Tunnel cover

Hamburg – Old Elbe Tunnel

Why the Old Elbe Tunnel is a masterpiece – and what makes it so romantic The Old Elbe Tunnel is one of the top ten sightseeing destinations in Hamburg. Here you can literally delve deep into the history of the port city: you can walk or cycle from the Landungsbrücken to the other side of the river about 24 meters below the Elbe. Entry is free and possible around the clock: you can access the tunnel either via stairs or elevators. You can see what it sounds like when a 144-piece orchestra plays in the Old Elbe Tunnel in this YouTube video, for example: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cdnA_ZijYUI [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cdnA_ZijYUI] Did you like this episode? Hamburg – the basics

What you should know about Hamburg Arriving and getting around: * The S1 runs from Hamburg Airport to the city center every 10 minutes; it takes 25 minutes to get to the main train station. * The three long-distance train stations Hauptbahnhof, Dammtor and Altona are also well connected to the public transport network: the Hamburger Verkehrsverbund (HVV). * HVV: Since the beginning of 2024, you have to buy your ticket in advance at the ticket machines or via app. You can find all the important information about tickets, timetables etc. here: https://www.hvv.de/de/de [https://www.hvv.de/de/de] * Uber in Hamburg: https://www.uber.com/global/de/r/cities/hamburg-hh-de/ [https://www.uber.com/global/de/r/cities/hamburg-hh-de/] * Cab app: https://www.free-now.com/de/fahrt/taxi-und-ride/ [https://www.free-now.com/de/fahrt/taxi-und-ride/] * Moia: https://www.moia.io/de-DE/stadt [https://www.moia.io/de-DE/stadt] The nicest neighborhoods are mainly west of the Alster, we recommend: * the Schanzenviertel (… about which we have recorded our own podcast episode, listen to that too!) * St. Pauli (especially the north around Paul-Roosen-Straße and Paulinenplatz) * Ottensen * Eimsbüttel * and on the northern bank of the Alster: Eppendorf, Winterhude, Harvestehude Our tips on the Elbe: * Övelgönne: museum harbor and beach section * Harbor tours from Landungsbrücken * Travel with the HVV ferries between Övelgönne and Landungsbrücken Our tips on the Alster: * Excursion boats from Jungfernstieg * Rent a canoe, e.g. at the Supper Club on the Isebek Canal: https://supperclub.de/ [https://supperclub.de/] The aforementioned "Portuguese Quarter" can be found along Ditmar-Koel-Straße, between the Landungsbrücken and Baumwall subway stations. You can get tickets for a concert in the Elbphilharmonie at the official ticket stores: https://www.elbphilharmonie.de/de/ticketinformationen#vorverkaufsstellen [https://www.elbphilharmonie.de/de/ticketinformationen#vorverkaufsstellen] Franzbrötchen can be found in almost every bakery in Hamburg, but Labskaus is only available in more traditional restaurants, e.g. in the crooked Oberhafenkantine (Stockmeyerstrasse 39) or in the Old Commercial Room at the Michel (Englische Planke 10).
