In Episode 5, we interview Dr. Shana Ye who speaks on transnational feminism, queer studies, China and global colonialism. Our student highlight is Tom Dong whose research is on workplace learning and social change!

On this week’s episode of Race to Academia, we interview Dr. Tamara Walker who is an associate professor in the History Department at the University of Toronto. Her research interests are on slavery and racial formation in Latin America and how slaveries legacy still has a lasting impact today. Sun Eui Choi will tell us about her research in our student highlight. Sun Eui is a first year Master’s student in the Department of Medical Biophysics at the University of Toronto. She is looking at neurological changes in pediatric acute lymphoblastic leukemia.

In Episode 3, we interview Falan Bennett who tells us about her research on the social and economic policies that impact Black maternal health and mortality rates. Our student highlight is Christine Kwong whose research focus is on the relationship between physical activity and mental well-being in post-secondary students with ADHD.

On this week’s episode of Race to Academia, we interview Elaine Cagulada who is a third year PhD student at University of Toronto. She expresses her interest in single story narratives of deafness, disability, and race within police institutions. At the end of the episode, the student highlight will be Bilal Khan, who is a first year PhD student at the Institute of Health Policy, Management and Evaluation, and discusses his research on the need for better mental health services in the criminal justice system.
