An overview of the Spokane 3 trial (so far)

On this week’s episode, Aaron Hedge and Pascal went on the air to talk more about the Spokane 3 trial – which began earlier this week on Monday, May 18th – and provide an overview of updates from the courtroom. The two of them gave updates from days 1, 2, and 3 of the trial (which were Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday). The “Spokane 3” consists of Jac Archer, Justice Forral and Bajun Mavalwalla II, who were charged by the federal government with conspiracy to impede a federal officer by using threats, force or intimidation to stop ICE agents from discharging their duties. The alleged conspiracy charges come from last year’s June 11th protest, where people in the community tried to stop ICE from taking two detained young men – who were in the US legally – to the ICE detention facility in Tacoma. They also talked about what’s been going on behind the scenes at RANGE since that protest. A rundown on the Spokane 3 trial

We have two segments for this week's episode! During the first segment, RANGE reporters Daniel Walters and Val Osier discussed the former Mayor Nadine Woodward's tort claim against the City of Spokane and the context around it. (Long story short: Woodward is threatening a $10 million lawsuit in response to a 2023 resolution from Spokane City Council, saying the resolution violated her free speech rights.) “A river of news in a news desert”

On this week’s episode, Aaron Hedge and Pascal spoke with two Gonzaga students – Sandra Rivera and Abby Zappone – about journalism in Spokane and the collaboration, research, and work that goes into it. Sandra and Abby are part of the six-person staff that created Spoke, a magazine that showcases Spokane’s journalistic world through essays from the student perspective. Bringing people together and taking care of each other

Developments in Spokane’s federal conspiracy case
