episode S3E9 - Understanding the uterus and cervix cover

S3E9 - Understanding the uterus and cervix

On this episode of Sexplained, host Beyla Patil (‘27) takes a closer look at the anatomy and function of the uterus and cervix, and how they work together within the menstrual cycle. The discussion breaks down what the uterus and cervix are made of, how the uterine lining builds and sheds each month, and how the cervix acts as the connection between the uterus and vagina while responding to hormonal changes throughout the cycle. It also explores how common experiences are connected to these biological processes. Ultimately, this episode aims to promote body literacy, reduce stigma, and help listeners better understand how the uterus and cervix function as a part of a coordinated reproductive system.  Disclaimer from Podcaster Beyla Patil (‘27): In today's episode, we will take a closer look at the uterus and cervix—what they are, how they function, and how they work together within the menstrual cycle.  I know everyone has different comfort levels with sexual health topics, so you might want to skip this one if it isn’t right for you, or give it a listen with a parent, guardian, or trusted adult. I'm 16 and have served on TeenSource’s California Sexual Education Youth Advisory Board, and am a volunteer at Planned Parenthood in Pasadena, San Gabriel Valley. I aim to provide listeners with information that comes from well-researched and informed data, but I am not a doctor, and you should always consult with a professional if you are seeking medical advice. This episode should not replace any conversation with a doctor. In today’s episode, I reference scientific information from Planned Parenthood and the Cleveland Clinic. Thank you so much, and enjoy the episode.
