Let's get this out of the way: we know the last thing anyone needs is another political podcast, especially one featuring two white guys dissecting the news. We agree. We were happy to be quiet. We were happy to believe the guardrails would hold. They haven't. "The Last Thing" is born of necessity, not ambition. We are two compelled voices, driven by the realization that our country and culture are on a frighteningly fast track to extreme authoritarianism. Every week, we take on the crucial, unsettling talking points—the moves, the rhetoric, and the institutional decay—that signal an escalating national crisis. We don't deal in partisan squabbles or media spin; we focus on the macro-threats to democracy, civil liberties, and the foundational values of the American republic. Our episodes are dedicated to waking people up to the reality of how quickly a free society can be destroyed by incremental, calculated steps. Why are we doing this? Because we believe that silence on these issues is no longer acceptable. If we don't speak now, when the warnings are still visible, the opportunity to speak at all may soon be gone.
