Will the United States still be in existence in 250 years?  The 250th anniversary of the United States becoming an independent sovereign nation is being celebrated this year . The original founding of the country is often referred to as the "experiment". Recent polls of Americans have suggested the "experiment" could fall apart within the next 250 years. Conversations around the primary election process in the United States continue to intensify, particularly around whether states should use open or closed primaries. A growing number of reform movements have pushed states with closed systems to consider opening participation to independents and unaffiliated voters.
