Having gained a masters degree in piano performance, Max put his music career on hold to focus on a real estate business with his wife. Fast forward ten years and it's now put them in the fortunate financial position to travel and focus their working lives on what they're passionate about, which for Max means getting back to music! After a planned trip around Mexico and the USA to warm themselves up, the family are relocating to Taiwan in August - a dream nearly a decade in the making! After a period of living in Australia they're now in Spain, connecting with the large worldschooling community in La Herradura as they await the birth of their fourth child - a girl to balance out the two boys and one girl they already have! From home-birthing to homeschooling, Melissa talks about her family, their travel from Australasia, through Vietnam - where they were unexpectedly forced by Covid into a slow-travel way of life, and all the differences it brings from fast travel - all the way to Europe. Melissa talks about real-life experiences in disaster situations that you just can't teach your children in the classroom, as well as getting over the anxiety and worry that parents can't teach their children. She shares he story of how they thrived as their found their way, from initially having disciplined focused study sessions through the natural transition to unschooling and individual, child-led, self-directed learning that has enabled her children to develop real, practical life-skills, as well as the importance of leading by example in following your dreams, teaching your kids that, in Melissa's words, "happiness is an inside job".
