"Too stupid to know I can't" is a mantra to my life. I am a firm believer I can accomplish anything as I don't possess the understanding that I can't. So...to me anything is possible; it just boils down to, "...how bad do you want it." This podcast will cover a great many things...NOT just drums, drumming and the like, but sales knowledge, technical knowledge, cycling, fitness, motivational thoughts, rants, raves and possibly any other thing I can wrap my brain around. So sit down, lend an ear and let's see where this goes.

episode Using the Hashtag (pound sign) #askdrumshoptulsa cover

Using the Hashtag (pound sign) #askdrumshoptulsa

Welcome to “Too Stupid to Know I Can’t.”  We have a little different type of episode this time.  During our time with Mark Meeker (return visitor and super great friend of the podcast and The Drum Shop), we follow up with the questions submitted by listeners and viewers of our podcast and YouTube Channel by using the #askdrumshoptulsa. During this episode we discuss 5 of the first 10 questions we’ve received and tried to keep it short – but as Mark and I often do…jocularity and sidebar discussions happen.  We do touch on some drum builder technology and quality of sound as it pertains to a couple of the questions.  Thanks to Josh Allen of INDe Drum Lab and Jon Zoog of Dallas Drum Co. for their fantastic instruments for discussion. We’d appreciate your input on this episode because we are trying to create a repository of honest answers to perplexing drum questions.  Remember to use #askdrumshoptulsa wherever you are listening to this podcast or following us on social media as we’d like to answer your question on an upcoming podcast. Thanks so much and don’t forget to like/share this podcast with everyone!!!  We’d also love your review as we can create better podcasts that you will enjoy. episode The Monkey Interviews Davis Douglas of D'addario. cover

The Monkey Interviews Davis Douglas of D'addario.

Thank you for joining us on Too Stupid to Know I Can’t.  During this episode we get to chat with Davis Douglas of D’Addario…makers of Evans Drumheads, ProMark Drumsticks, Puresound Wires, Real Feel Practice Pads, American Stage Cables along with a variety of other products for guitars and other instruments. During this episode, we discuss the ideas, concepts and philosophies of D’Addario with about 90% of their products being made in the United States of America.  Additionally, we discuss some basic technology of drumheads and specifically the UV1.  More importantly, we get to talk about the soon to be released UV2.  Yes folks…that’s right, the long awaited 2-ply version of the UV Heads are coming to the market.  We discuss why and how this head is made along with some basic education regarding snare side heads and the various tuning concepts.  In addition, we also had a chance to talk about the EC Resonant heads which I’ve never played before, but now have me intrigued. One of the cool things was our discussion of Puresound Wires and the technology that went into the Custom Pro Wires and why.  In case you weren’t aware of the coolness that is the Puresound Custom Pro wires, they implanted a “cotter pin” to release your wires from the throwoff without having to reset the wires.  It makes changing your snare side head super fast and easy, encouraging you to change your head more often which coincidentally is something also talk about.  Meaning the importance of changing resonant heads more often than people believe. Sit back and enjoy this episode of Too Stupid to Know I Can’t and please remember to like, share and comment on this episode…it really helps us.  Additionally, if you are on social media (FB, Instagram, Twitter or YouTube), please use the pound sign (or hashtag as you young folk say) and “askdrumshoptulsa” whatever you’d like us to address on an upcoming podcast.  Each week we will search the “hashtag” and see what you’re asking to be able to answer it on an upcoming episode.  So, use #askdrumshoptulsa for us to find your question and answer it. Oh…one more thing.  If you haven’t subscribed yet, please do…we’d really appreciate.  And thank you for joining us on Too Stupid to Know I Can’t.

episode Mark Squared and The Head Monkey Wrangler... cover

Mark Squared and The Head Monkey Wrangler...

Welcome to “Too Stupid to Know I Can’t” where we got to hang out with Mark Meeker and Mark Ogg. Mr. Meeker being a long-time local drummer, instructor and all-around good guy with Mark Ogg being a super guy, solid player and also a long-time local drummer made for an interesting evening of conversation.  I had no idea how this podcast was going to go. What was to be a focused podcast quickly turned into over two and a half hours of jocularity, intense discussion and a lot of laughs.  We talk about our favorite KISS song/album, larger-sized drummers, drumstick technology and more.  This is a much longer episode than we intended…however we think it should be fun enough you won’t notice how long it actually it is. So, sit back, strap in and enjoy, “Too Stupid to Know I Can’t.”

episode Hot Damn! Interviewing Jeremy Berman of Q Drum Co. cover

Hot Damn! Interviewing Jeremy Berman of Q Drum Co.

Welcome to Too Stupid to Know I Can’t and today we interview the incredible Jeremy Berman of Q Drum Co. out of Southern California.  During this episode we speak with Jeremy (currently in Singapore) on tour as the drum tech for Muse.  This is a career Jeremy “fell into” while working at his previous employer and while it may not be a glamorous job for some, it provides Jeremy the ability to work intently with an artist while garnering a laser focus on how his drums work in different locals, temperatures, scenarios and hear them in a variety of context. We speak about how Q Drum Co. came to be and some of his history in the industry along with some interesting info I didn’t know about.  We touch a little bit on the state of the drum industry or perhaps the music industry as a whole pertaining to musical instruments along with what the future might hold. Jeremy and I get into the nitty gritty of what make Q Drum Co. Drums so incredible and we learn more of the philosophy behind Q Drum Co.  We talk about some things “on the horizon” for Q Drum Co. along with how our paths crossed in the cycling world early on without knowing it. We hope you enjoy this episode and will share with your friends who love drums. episode Interviewing Steve Stecher of Doc Sweeney Drums cover

Interviewing Steve Stecher of Doc Sweeney Drums

In this episode of Too Stupid to Know I Can’t I interview Steven Stecher of Doc Sweeney Drums.  Wow!! So much information an insight, I don’t even know where to begin.  We discuss steam bent and stave versus plywood-built shells, how they finish their drums and why they do what they do. We spend a considerable amount of time discussing wood densities, species and how they are used sonically to create a drummer’s sound.  We even get to discuss how the various types of hoops affect the sound of a given shell.  Steven even provides a glimpse into the future of Doc Sweeney with the implementation of their “Uni-Body” shells that will be milled from a single piece of steam bent wood. Woohooo – Super Cool!  On top of all that – we take a little diversion into the world of observation about the industry as a whole and what the future holds for all of us.
