episode 23 - The One About Worry…Spoiler Alert: Most of It Never Happens cover

23 - The One About Worry…Spoiler Alert: Most of It Never Happens

This week’s episode is a little life catch-up, a little church reflection, and a whole lot of talking ourselves through worry. Patty shares what spring planting season looks like on the farm right now, including Drive Your Tractor to School Day, growing boys, and the bittersweet reality of watching your kids become independent. Amy opens up about making a big childcare transition for next year and the mental spiral that can come with motherhood changes and wanting your kids to be okay.  The conversation turns into an honest chat about anxiety, overthinking, and how easy it is to replay fears in our minds. We talk about practical ways to try to fight worry, from writing things down and interrupting anxious thoughts to leaning into prayer, truth, and trusting that God has always provided before and will again.  There’s also discussion around parenting older kids, letting go a little at a time, protecting your peace, and remembering that most of what we worry about never actually happens anyway. Bible Verses mentioned: Philippians 4:6-7: Paul tells believers not to be anxious about anything, but in every situation to bring requests to God through prayer and thanksgiving. The promise that follows is that God's peace, which surpasses understanding, will guard your heart and mind in Christ Jesus. 2 Timothy 1:7: "For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind." Paul is encouraging Timothy not to shrink back in timidity. Matthew 6: It's part of the Sermon on the Mount and covers a lot of ground: giving to the needy, the Lord's Prayer (verses 9-13), fasting, storing up treasures in heaven rather than on earth, not being able to serve both God and money, and the famous "do not worry" passage (verses 25-34) about the birds of the air and the lilies of the field — ending with "seek first the kingdom of God." Romans 8:5-6: Paul contrasts two ways of living: those who live according to the flesh have their minds set on what the flesh desires, while those who live according to the Spirit have their minds set on what the Spirit desires. "The mind governed by the flesh is death, but the mind governed by the Spirit is life and peace."

episode 22 - Loving People Without Losing Your Peace cover

22 - Loving People Without Losing Your Peace

This week on 27 Good, we’re clearing the air on a few things from past episodes, including Mother’s Day expectations, Outlander timeline confusion, and why we still absolutely want the cupcakes 😂 We also get into a really honest conversation about boundaries, difficult people, gossip, grace, and the tension between being kind and protecting your peace. How much grace do you extend before it starts draining you? Can Christians set boundaries without feeling guilty? And where’s the line between venting and gossiping? We also chat about Teacher Appreciation Week, funny spirit days at school, motherhood, sleep-deprived kids, local coffee shop obsessions, and why sometimes moms just decide everyone’s skipping nap time because we’re going to lunch anyway. A little heartfelt, a little funny, and very real. 💛  Bible Verses Mentioned Proverbs 4:23 “Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it.” Romans 12:17 “Do not repay anyone evil for evil. Be careful to do what is right in the eyes of everyone.”

21 - The Mother’s Day Episode: Church Notes, (Mild) Emotional Damage, and Other Mom Things!

Happy Mother’s Day… and also, why are moms carrying so much pressure around it? 😅 This week we’re chatting honestly about the expectations that come with Mother’s Day, social media comparisons, and learning to let go of the “perfect day” fantasy. Patty shares how she’s changed her mindset around farm life and Mother’s Day during planting season, and Amy tells the story of her most emotional postpartum Mother’s Day ever. We also dive into newborn life and all the things people should actually do for a new mom, from bringing meals to folding laundry to simply staying awhile. Plus, we share funny postpartum memories, thoughts on baby gadgets, and the classic question: “What would the Indians have done?” 😂 To wrap it up, we talk through two powerful church messages about confession, living in the light, materialism, generosity, and what it means to truly let God transform us instead of just hiding our struggles. Bible Verses Mentioned 1 John 1:5-7 “God is light; in him there is no darkness at all...” Luke 12:16-21 The parable of the rich fool storing up treasures for himself instead of being “rich toward God.”

episode 20 - Carrying Each Other’s Burdens (In Real Life) cover

20 - Carrying Each Other’s Burdens (In Real Life)

Episode Summary This week, Amy and Patty catch up on life lately, from books and library mishaps to spring flowers and upcoming trips.  They celebrate a big milestone with Amy’s 10-year anniversary and a kid-free California trip in the works, while also navigating the chaos of busy family schedules, state testing, and everyday life. The conversation takes a meaningful turn as Patty shares a powerful story from the NFL Draft about Fernando Mendoza and his decision to stay home with his mom who has multiple sclerosis. That leads into a deeper, heartfelt discussion about disability, compassion, and what it really looks like to “carry each other’s burdens” in real life. They reflect on Patty’s mom’s journey with Multiple sclerosis, the quiet strength it takes to live with it, and the perspective it gives on gratitude, grace, and not taking your body for granted. Rooted in Galatians 6:2, “Carry each other’s burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ,” this episode is a reminder to slow down, offer help, and lead with compassion. It’s a mix of light and heavy, funny and meaningful, just real life as it is.

episode 19 - Marriage, Ketchup, and the Little Things That Actually Matter cover

19 - Marriage, Ketchup, and the Little Things That Actually Matter

This week's episode topic got scrapped once already, so you know it’s honest! We’re talking marriage. Not in a “here’s our expert advice” way. More like, here’s what’s worked, what hasn’t, and the moments that shape it all. From flip flops in cow pastures to learning how to let the small stuff go… yeah. We covered some ground. We talk about: *  How we met our husbands and why those early days feel so different now  *  Early marriage vs now and how everything shifts  *  The small stuff that can turn into bigger moments  *  Why choosing to get along really does matter  *  How moms set the tone of the home (whether we like it or not)  *  Faith, serving each other, and keeping the main thing the main thing  Also featuring: *  A deep appreciation for condiments as a love language  *  The evolution from “follow him everywhere” to “see you later, good luck”  *  And the realization that none of us really know what we’re doing, we’re just committed to figuring it out  No perfect advice here. Just real life, growth, and a lot of grace. Verse we’re holding onto: Colossians 3:23 “Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters.” If you’ve ever been frustrated over something small, grown through it, and come out better on the other side… you’re in good company.
