Most of this show felt like WWE just filling time before Saturday Night’s Main Event, and outside of Carmelo Hayes vs Trick Williams, there really wasn’t much that stood out to me. Even THAT match felt questionable at points, but at least Melo and Trick brought some actual energy to the show when everything else felt flat and predictable. But then came the main event… and WWE finally fixed Sami Zayn. After months of feeling stale as a babyface, Sami finally snapped, and instantly became one of the most interesting characters on SmackDown again. Heel Sami has always been better. The paranoia, manipulation, bitterness, and smug attitude fit him perfectly, and tonight finally felt like WWE remembered what made Sami special in the first place. This version of Sami feels dangerous again, and honestly? It might’ve saved an otherwise mid episode of SmackDown. If WWE fully commits to this heel turn and doesn’t backtrack next week, this could completely revive Sami Zayn heading into Clash in Italy and the rest of the summer. SmackDown may have disappointed me overall tonight, but the Sami Zayn heel turn absolutely delivered.
