Yatu Widders-Hunt Is Shining A Light On Indigenous Fashion

Yatu Widders-Hunt has always been a storyteller. A descendant of the Anaiwan & Dunghutti tribes, she was a freelance journalist before becoming a communications consultant, specialising in Indigenous policy and research. But Yatu also loves fashion. In 2017, she set up her own Instagram page, Australian Indigenous Fashion, which has over 27 thousand followers and is dedicated to showcasing  Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander fashion designers. Yatu has emerged as the go, ‘ear to the ground’ for what’s happening in the Indigenous fashion space, acting as an advisor to non-Indigenous brands wanting to collaborate with Aboriginal designers and artists and building more diverse fashion events, including one at this year's Virgin Australia Melbourne Fashion Festival. Kirli Saunders On The Power Of Stories

Storytelling is fundamental to Indigenous people. It plays a big part in the handing-down of culture from generation to generation. Gunai woman Kirli Saunders embodies the tradition of storytelling. She is an award-winning children’s book author, poet, artist and manager of the ground-breaking Poetry in First Languages program at Red Room Poetry. Kirli joins Marlee to share how she wants to make poetry visible, meaningful, and part of everyday life, especially for the youngest members of First Nations cultures. Hannah Brontë Is Changing The Way People See Indigenous Art

When you think about Aboriginal art, what comes to mind? A dot painting or an ancient image engraved on a rock? Art in all its forms is forever evolving, growing and changing, and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander art isn’t exempt from this. In this episode, we meet Hannah Brontë. Hannah is a Wakka Wakka Yaegel woman born and raised in Brisbane. She’s an artist and she describes herself as a “bridge between worlds”, exploring female empowerment through photography, performance, live installations and DJing. Most importantly, Hannah seeks to make space for Indigenous women and girls. She wants their voices heard and their presence felt. Tanya Hosch Is Fighting For A More Inclusive AFL

The sporting world is a holy place in Australian culture. Aussies are passionate about their sport. Although Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people have been highly successful in various sports throughout history, there’s still work to be done on inclusion and diversity in many codes. Thankfully the AFL has a strong and resilient Torres Strait Islander woman who has dedicated her life to increasing opportunities and bettering the experiences of Indigenous people and women. Her name is Tanya Hosch, and she’s driving change to build a stronger, more welcoming sporting community as the General Manager of Inclusion and Social Policy at the AFL. Shahni Wellington Is Keeping Politicians Accountable

Shahni Wellington has something to say to you if you feel like you're constantly second-guessing yourself and your achievements. Shahni is a passionate writer. After completing a Bachelor in Communication at The University of Newcastle, she secured a Cadetship with ABC Darwin, where she reported on everything from court to crocs. Now, as a Political Correspondent for NITV, she’s determined to help address issues that Indigenous people face every day and remind politicians of who they represent. And she joins Marlee Silva to talk about it.
