Descripción

Episode Summary Can we find happiness and meaning in the things we can buy—in pleasures and possessions? The Preacher shows that we can literally have it all in this life, and still actually have absolutely nothing. By contrast, Jesus shows that we can have literally nothing in this life, and still actually have absolutely everything. Read the Bible passage here: Ecclesiastes 2:1-11 [https://www.bible.com/bible/111/Ecc.2.NIV] Series Summary This message was preached on 8 May 2022 as part of a Bible teaching series on the Old Testament book of Ecclesiastes, written by King Solomon. We're usually familiar with the Bible's stories and rules, but what about the category of 'wisdom'? Wisdom was an important pursuit of the Bible writers, as they sought to live well, under God, in the light of what he has revealed. Ecclesiastes is a wisdom book, and teaches us the wisdom of how to find meaning and purpose in an often confusing world. The answers might not be all we want, but they're all we need. Episode Summary Can work give us meaning and purpose in life? Not really, if the Preacher's observations about life are right. But it doesn't have to end there. Could there be a way to redeem the work we all have to do? 2. 'That's Life' (Ecclesiastes 1:1-18)

Episode Summary If only there were easy answers to give us meaning and purpose in life. Unfortunately, as the wise Preacher has proven, however hard we try so much of life is as substantial and reliable as the morning mist. Jesus offers an alternative: if you want to really live, you first need to die. 1. The Wisdom of Wisdom (Proverbs 1:1-7)

Episode Summary Wisdom helps us learn how to live well in the world that God has created, but we need to be careful we don't observe the creation apart from a right relationship with the Creator. What's more, the gospel actually supercharges our search for wisdom by showing us the path to the best life there is: a life which continues in Christ forever. Read the Bible passage here: Proverbs 1:1-7 [https://www.bible.com/bible/111/Pro.1.NIV] Series Summary This message was preached on 24 April 2022 as part of a Bible teaching series on the Old Testament book of Ecclesiastes, written by King Solomon. 8. Lukewarm (Revelation 3:14-22)

Episode Summary In the church at Laodicaea, total dependance on the Lord Jesus Christ has been supplanted in favour of lukewarmness—neither being hot nor cold. It's this condition which nauseates the Lord of the church, so much so that he wants to spit them out of his mouth. To return to a state of burning bright, the centrality of the Lord Jesus in the life of the church, and the lives of individual believers, needs to be reclaimed. This final letter to the churches leaves us with the searching question, 'What's your temperature when it comes to Jesus?' Read the Bible passage here: Revelation 3:14-22 [https://www.bible.com/bible/111/REV.3.NIV] Series Summary This message was preached on 19 March 2017 as part of a Bible teaching series on the first three chapters of the book of Revelation in the New Testament, especially the letters to the seven churches in the province of Asia Minor.
