"Send...More...Paramedics" | The Return of the Living Dead

This week we are diving headfirst into a muddy graveyard of punk rock and practical effects with the 1985 horror-comedy masterpiece, The Return of the Living Dead. A groundbreaking zombie tale that drastically changed the undead creatures lore. These are some sentient, fast-moving ghouls that have been brought back by some shady military experiments hidden away in a warehouse basement in Kentucky. To survive the toxic military gas, we are cracking open a true local favorite, Dusty Bottoms, a pre-Prohibition style Kentucky Common style ale from Sawstone Brewing Co. (our local brewery). A style of beer that originates in Lousville, just like the outbreak of Trioxin zombies, and is comforting enough to help you survive the onslaught. This week we unpacked the fascinatingly weird 2011 film The Beaver, directed by Jodie Foster. A movie with a deceptive trailer that pulled us in with a wild premise and promises of absurd humor. Is it a bizarre dark comedy, a tragic look at mental health, or just Mel Gibson talking to his hand in a weird accent?  To help us cope with the heavy themes and puppet-induced existential dread, we cracked open another perfect pairing in No Beavers Were Harmed, a luxurious Vanilla Bean Nitro Stout from the folks at our local brewery Sawstone Brewing Co. "They're real bad metal" | Omega Doom

This week we ventured into the post-apocalyptic robot filled ruins of 1996's Omega Doom. A very 90s aesthetic, cyborg cowboys, and Cold War vibes fill this low-budget reimagining of a western classic. Starring the legendary Rutger Hauer and providing a truly unique take on the Yojimbo story, this hidden gem was bad... in all the right ways. To help us wash down the radiation and rust, we’re cracking open a cold one that fits the theme perfectly, Peso in My Hand, a crisp, clean, and light-bodied Mexican lager by the people at Fretboard Brewing. A taste that cuts through the grit of this dusty dystopia. It's not quite "A Fistful of Dollars", but neither is the movie... He drinks water....with ice. "Sir, it's moving!" | The Peanut Butter Solution

For this week's episode we venture into the surreal world of 1980s Canadian cinema to tackle The Peanut Butter Solution. A film that has lived rent-free in the "was that a fever dream?" corner of many people's brains for decades at this point. We break down the bizarre logic of hair-growing recipes, the questionable parenting of the 80s, and all the other madness. To wash down the stickiness of the plot (and cope with everything we had to witness), we’re sipping on a heavy hitter from Left Hand Brewing that perfectly mirrors the film's thick, nutty, and slightly dark undertones. The Peanut Butter Milk Stout was the perfect peanut butter solution for us as we took on The Fright and this strange tale. This week on the podcast we grabbed our proton packs and P.K.E. meters as we headed back to the 1984 paranormal masterpiece, Ghostbusters. Whether you're in it for the antics of our ghost busting team or the terrifying elegance of Gozer the Gozerian and the terror dogs, we’re breaking down why this film remains a gold standard for the horror-comedy genre(s).  To match the nostalgia of the film (and the entire Ghostbusters Empire), we are pairing this review with Ecto Punch by Atrium Brewing. This hard soda is a vibrant, citrusy throwback that looks like it was siphoned directly out of Slimer himself.
