31. Lady Parts, Painful Sex, and the Vulva Story We Should've Heard Sooner

What if painful sex, tampon pain, or that "something is wrong down there" feeling was not something to quietly tolerate, joke away, or fix with the world's least helpful advice: "just have a glass of wine"? In this episode of Labia Logic, Dr. Ashley Fuller and Dr. Meredith McClure welcome filmmaker and storyteller Bonnie Gross, creator of Lady Parts, a comedy feature inspired by her own experience with vestibulodynia, painful sex, repeated misdiagnoses, and eventually a vestibulectomy. They talk about why vulvar pain is so often misunderstood, why vulvodynia is sometimes more of a starting point than a full answer, and how conditions like recurrent yeast infections and pelvic floor dysfunction can overlap. They also explain why doctors really need to learn the word vulva before your feet go up and they go poking around with a speculum. Vulvar pain deserves real medical attention, a painful exam should never be brushed off, and patients should trust themselves when something feels wrong. These are facts. Non-negotiables. You deserve answers, care, and pleasure without pain. Period. She has a passion for telling authentic stories that focus on the realities of living with chronic vulvovaginal and pelvic pain, which she believes deserve far more screen time. Originally from Philadelphia and now based in New York City, Bonnie earned her B.A. in Media Production from the University of Alabama and completed the UCLA Professional Program in TV Comedy Writing in 2018. Her most recent film Lady Parts, now streaming on Amazon Prime, is an autobiographical comedy inspired by her own experience navigating the vulvovaginal health care world, which earned the Special Jury Award for Screenwriting at the Florida Film Festival and the Jury Award for Best Comedy Feature at the Austin Film Festival. Bonnie has worked for several years in post-production at Encore Hollywood and Light Iron, working on an array of television shows and films. She now co-owns Brainwomb, a boutique finishing house in NYC where she partners with filmmakers to shape their stories at every stage of the post-production process. She has also written, produced, and edited comedic content for the media brand It's a Southern Thing, and regularly creates her own offbeat comedy videos for social media. In addition to her creative work, Bonnie serves as the social media manager and a campaign team volunteer for Tight Lipped, a grassroots advocacy organization by and for people with chronic vulvovaginal and pelvic pain. 30. Vulvar Pain Is Not "All in Your Head"… But Your Brain Is Definitely Involved

Have you ever asked about your vulvar pain and been told… "it's normal," "it's stress," or the deeply unhelpful classic, "just relax"? In this episode, Labia Logic Dr. Adriana Martí joins the conversation to get into the very real, very frustrating world of chronic vulvar pain. Dr. Marti is a clinical health psychologist and she joins Dr. Ashely Fuller and Dr. Meredith McClure to share why treating chronic vulvar pain usually takes more than one magic pill, one procedure, or one awkward appointment where everyone avoids saying the word vulva. They discuss why chronic pain is different from acute pain, how the brain and nervous system can amplify pain signals, why catastrophizing is not a character flaw, and how stress, trauma, loneliness, relationships, and self-criticism can all turn the pain volume way up. This episode covers how pain education, cognitive behavioral therapy, acceptance and commitment therapy, pain reprocessing, and a biopsychosocial approach can help people relate to pain differently and reclaim more of their lives. We're here to offer validation, practical hope, and the much-needed reminder that chronic vulvar pain is complex, treatable, and deserving of care that sees the whole person, not just the body part causing the drama. About our Guest: Dr. Adriana Martí is a Health Psychologist who was born and raised in Havana, Cuba. From an early age Dr. Martí experienced the challenges of poverty and lack of freedom of speech. That's when she realized that she wanted to use her voice and skills to make a profound impact in the world. Dr. Martí left Cuba at the age of 12 and embarked on her journey to make a difference by choosing a career in the healthcare field. Coming from a family of physicians, Dr. Martí learned the importance of addressing physical components to heal the body. She also noticed the weaknesses of the biomedical approaches and recognized the need of integrative models to help individuals shift from disease into ease. Dr. Martí has used her bilingual and bicultural assets to positively influence various medical settings, program development, management, underserved populations, and has mentored a myriad of students and medical personnel on the value of mind body approaches. Dr. Martí is very passionate about making a difference in the community and spends her free time learning about the latest advances in the field of chronic pain and contributing to research. 29. Slang, Sex, and the Female Body

Why do we have a hundred nicknames for the vulva, but half of them feel weird, cringey, or downright insulting? Where did these words even come from? And why do so many of them turn into insults? In this episode of Labia Logic, Dr. Ashley Fuller and Dr. Meredith McClure dig into the messy, fascinating, and sometimes uncomfortable world of sex slang. Brace yourself because nothing is off the table. Inspired in part by recent social media, they explore how language shapes stigma, why so many slang terms for women's bodies skew negative, and how even "funny" words can carry harmful undertones. Along the way, they pull from a massive historical slang dictionary, share surprising origins, and call out the cultural patterns that keep shame alive. Words matter. Your body is not the punchline. So let's reframe the conversation around vulvar anatomy with confidence instead of embarrassment. Doesn't that sound cliterific? 29. Queefs, Squirts, Clit Bling & More

Ever wondered if squirting is something you're supposed to "achieve"? Have you panicked over a rogue queef at the worst possible moment? What about briefly considered a little… clit bling? This episode of Labia Logic gets right in there with all the pop culture noise surrounding vulvas. Expectations are loud, information is questionable, and Google is not always your friend. Dr. Ashley Fuller and Dr. Meredith McClure are myth-busting the squirts, the queefs, and the piercings. They also talk about common misconceptions, from toilet seat paranoia to the idea that bodies should look, smell, or perform a certain way. All their info is grounded in anatomy, science, and real-life patient conversations. Takeaway? Your body isn't broken. It's just not a TikTok highlight reel. Squirting is optional, not a gold medal event; queefs are normal and sometimes just… comedic timing; and clitoral piercings come with more risk than reward. No shame. No stigma. They've got solid info and a reminder that normal spans a very wide range.
