I featured their tracks “Maxx and Ruby” and “Makin’ It the Hard Way,” both of which you can find on any music streaming platform. Episode 301 features Neptune and the Sailor, an art rock band from Jersey. They have a new EP out called Disc 2, and I featured a couple of their tracks on this episode. One is called "Commonplace," and the other is "Sailor, Sailor." If you like their sound, you can find them on Spotify or wherever you listen to music. In the episode, I spoke with James & Owen and we talked about life, school, songwriting, NYC, house shows, and a bunch of other stuff. Thanks for listening and supporting local music! Episode 300! Featuring local legend Howi Spangler of Ballyhoo! They’re a touring beach rock band from Aberdeen, Maryland, and have been a staple in the scene for a long time. This was Howi’s second appearance on the show (his first was way back on Episode 100), and it was another fun conversation. In this episode, we talked about songwriting, TikTok, pursuing your dreams, and what Ballyhoo has planned for the summer. I also featured Ballyhoo’s track Shellshock on this episode. If you dig it, you can stream it wherever you listen to music. Thanks for listening and supporting local music! Episode 299 features Holler Choir from North Carolina, an Appalachian-American folk/bluegrass outfit led by the songwriting of Clint Roberts. I wanted to get Clint on the show after catching his set at the 9:30 Club, where they opened for one of my all-time favorite bands, Susto. Holler Choir is also involved in a side project called the Susto String Band, which will be bluegrass interpretations of classic Susto songs. They recently released a new EP titled "Songs Before They Write Themselves," produced by Grammy-winning producer Michael Ashworth. In this episode, I featured the track "Hard Pill" from that EP, as well as their top-streaming song "Carolina" to close out the episode. In our conversation, Clint and I talked about the origins of Holler Choir, bluegrass, the Asheville music scene, being in a co-ed band, Susto, and much more. Thanks for listening and supporting local music! We’ve got a big episode coming up for episode 300, so stay tuned! Episode 298 features Main Street Detour from Pittsburgh, a pop punk emo rock band with some new music out. I showcased their track “Joy” on this episode, and if you like it, you can stream it wherever you listen to music. I had a great conversation with Niko and Dan about the Pittsburgh music scene, songwriting, and balancing work with their passion for music. They’ve got a big album release show coming up on January 18th at Mr. Smalls Funhouse in Pittsburgh. If you want to support the band, you can find ticket info and more on their social media.
