Finding Hope After Loss: Did My Son Go to Heaven?

Rico Lane [00:00:00]: Hey. How y'all doing? I'm Rico, and this is another episode of Reddit Replies. I want you to do me a favor. Imagine the person you love the most, someone you truly care about, whether that's a parent, a child, just a loved one. Right? They're caught up in a fatal mistake or should I say a sin that cost them their life. Now as a Christian, you can't help but wonder what happens to them after they pass away. Right? You can't help but wonder that if God's gonna judge them, are they in heaven or hell because the last thing they did was a sin that caused them to die? Right? And it's not a theoretical question either. It's a real story that comes from a grieving mother. Rico Lane [00:00:43]: And so as I dive into this particular topic, like I said, I'm gonna operate with a little bit of grace. I'm gonna operate with a little bit of compassion. And I will ask that if you decide to comment in the comment section to do the same. But here's the story that is shared with us. Reddit User [00:01:00]: My 17 year old passed away 6 months ago. He was a very spiritual child and spent so much of his time in church, deeply worshiping Jesus. Not just because others were doing it. But because he truly loved Jesus and wanted to please him. He struggled with drugs and alcohol and had constant guilt and shame because of it. It tore him in 2 and deeply afflicted him that even though he wanted to do good, he kept messing up. He was doing so good after a rough year, he had a job, car, great relationships with his family and was a great big brother to his 2 siblings. Unfortunately, a friend gave him a pill and told him it was a Percocet. Reddit User [00:01:49]: He Googled it and clearly debated it the night of his death. We hung out in the kitchen laughing and joking. He hugged me and told me he loved me. We went to bed. But before he got into his bed, he had apparently tried a piece of that pill, leaving the rest on his dresser. He covered up and laid there the way he slept every night. His soul left his body that night. What I need to know is, did my son go to heaven? Did he go to hell because he was old enough to decide good versus evil? Was believing in Jesus and wanting to please him enough, given that he died in sin? It's tearing my soul apart. Reddit User [00:02:36]: He and I were closer that anyone. He was truly my best friend and my soul feels lost in this universe wondering what happened when he left his body. Did he go to heaven because he was 17? Can somebody tell me something? Rico Lane [00:02:53]: Man, I'm not gonna lie. This post kinda break my heart, man. I just can't even imagine what this mom is going through. Losing a loved one, especially a child, is a sorrow that words cannot describe right. And there's so much going on in here. So much I want to comment on. She has, you know, many difficult questions about what happened to her son after his soul left his body. It brings up questions about what happens when we leave this side of eternity. Rico Lane [00:03:22]: Right? And what does that judgment look like? She even asked that his belief in Jesus, was that enough? Because he died in sin Reddit ultimately shapes the way we look at sin. It ultimately shapes the way what we actually believe and what Christ did. Do we believe that Christ's sacrifice was enough for us? Do we believe that it's a gift that that that we can only accept, that we cannot earn? And so does one sin that happens right before you die, erase what Jesus did? These are all valid questions. And I can tell you too that, this is kind of the kind of stuff we wanna be thinking about as Christians before our loved ones pass away. This is why it's important to share the gospel. But, again, I wanna take this opportunity to, hopefully, help out by giving some words of truth from god's word. Because in situations like this, we got we can't really lean on our own understanding. We can't lean on our emotions because our emotions gonna veer us away. Rico Lane [00:04:27]: You know, we gotta go on what the word of God says and that's all we can go off of. So first, I wanna go to first John chapter 1 verse 9. Right? That particular passage assures us that if we confess our sins that he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all wickedness. That's from all wickedness. Now just because somebody's going through certain things doesn't invalidate this. Right? You see, your son's love for Jesus, his worship, and his struggles show a heart that knew his savior and wanted to please his savior. I actually heard a pastor say something like, know, God forgives our sins but he blesses obedience. Right? And also too when you think about that atonement and what Jesus' blood did, they say it makes it like it never happened. Rico Lane [00:05:23]: So when God judges us, he judges us on what Jesus did and not what we did. Right? The mistakes he made, the battles he fought, they don't erase his faith or God's grace. Right? Making mistakes, sinning, slipping up, debate, you know, taking taking some drugs or whatever, that that doesn't erase your faith nor does it erase God's grace. It's just a moment of weakness, a moment of disobedience. And it is a sin, but the blood of Jesus washed away our sin. And before I go even further, I wanna say one thing to, kids out there. Is somebody told him it was a Percocet. He debated on taking it. Rico Lane [00:06:07]: So that was, in my opinion, the holy spirit telling him, don't do it. Don't do it. Because on this side of eternity there are consequences for our sins. That's just the Replies, right? Just because God forgives our sins don't mean we don't face consequences. So you never know when that one time you say yes to something will be the last time you're able to say yes to anything. But just understand what God promised us. Romans 10 verse 9 says, if you openly declare that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. You see, salvation isn't about our perfection. Rico Lane [00:06:48]: It's about our belief in Christ and his perfect sacrifice. So when you ask, was his belief in Christ enough? The answer is yes, if he actually believed in Christ. Your son's love for Jesus and his desire to please him is the core of his faith. And if he truly believed in Jesus, then he is saved. Matthew verse 7 verse 1 does remind us too. This is for the people who wanna hop in the comments. Do not judge others and you will not be judged. Only God knows our hearts fully. Rico Lane [00:07:16]: It's not for us to say who's saved and who's not saved, especially based on their last moments or their struggles. Right? Although, I know some people gonna try to say that. Right? I used to always wonder this about suicide. If somebody committed suicide, would that automatically send them to hell? Going off the same thought process of his mother. Right? Because we know that murder is a sin. Killing yourself is a sin. And so if you do that right before you die, does that mean you go to hell? And the answer is I still don't really know. I think it ultimately boils down to what you truly believe in your heart. Rico Lane [00:07:53]: And I do believe that somebody can actually believe in God, actually trust him as a savior, but be going through something or may even be deceived and tempted by the devil to make a fatal mistake. But God is just and God is loving. He's gonna judge us accordingly, and you never know what somebody might be going through mentally, physically, spiritually, or emotionally that can lead to certain decisions that they make. But what I do know is that the requirement for salvation is belief in Christ. And so it's times like these that is crucial for us to remember the importance of sharing the gospel with our loved ones. We also need to share with our enemies. Right? Because we shouldn't wish hell on anybody. Tomorrow is a promise, and Jesus is the way to heaven. Rico Lane [00:08:44]: Matthew 28 verse 19 through 20 commands us, therefore, go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the father, the son, and the holy Reddit, teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. You see, one, we are called to go out and make disciples, which means we gotta share the gospel with them for them to know Christ. But 2, we also gotta teach them to obey the things that Christ commanded. Which means even though we may be saved, even though we may be disciples, there's gonna be some times where we're gonna mess up and we gotta be corrected. And we gotta teach ones to not do that, to obey the teachings of Christ. Right? And so our mission is clear. That is to spread the hope and love of Christ to everyone we can while we can. Now let's take a moment to reflect on our relationships. Rico Lane [00:09:36]: Right? Are we sharing the hope that we have in Jesus? Are we living out the love that he commanded us to show? You see, time is precious. Once it's gone, it's gone. We always treat money, you know, as though it's precious. Right? But time is more precious than money. Last time I checked, they can print more money. They can't print more time. And the message of salvation is too important to keep to ourselves. Right? These are the kind of things we need to be. Rico Lane [00:10:06]: These These are the kind of conversations we need to be having with our loved ones and our neighbors often. Right? This is a call for you all to love a little bit deeper, to share a little bit more, and to trust in the mercy of god. Right? Just because you make a mistake doesn't mean you lose your salvation. And for anyone who's struggling, I wanna remind you that god's grace is sufficient. I need you to hear me on this. Don't make a permanent decision for a temporary problem. Right? Taking your life, doing something that's gonna end your life. That's only gonna that's that's that's a permanent decision for a temporary problem. Rico Lane [00:10:45]: And then guess what? You still gotta face eternity. And I don't know about you. I don't wanna have to go on the other side of eternity eternity and see God and answer for something I did right then and there when I could have leaned on him, trusted him, went to his word, asked him for his help, believed in his grace, and how to face him and explain even though I know he's gracious enough and if I believe in Christ, he will forgive me. I'm already forgiven. But that's still something you just don't wanna do, right? So if I earned it, do me a favor and hit that like button. Share it. Leave your, thoughts in the comment section. Add to the conversation. Rico Lane [00:11:30]: Right? Do it with a little bit of grace, but I would love to hear your thoughts. Do you think that if somebody commit a sin and then it results in a death while they're committing that sin that they're automatically going to hell? Is their belief in Christ is enough? Listen, I enjoyed this one. Even though it was a sad one. Even though somebody's life was lost. It was a good opportunity to share the gospel and to understand that Christ died for our sins and he love us and he, understands that we're gonna go through certain things in this life. But I think the overall message I wanna leave everybody is obey the words of Christ. Obey his teachings or you're gonna have to deal with consequences for whatever those consequences are. But if you believe in Christ, you will be saved. Rico Lane [00:12:28]: Until next time, do me a favor. Operate in love, operate in peace, and operate in the Holy Spirit. I'll catch you next time. Peace.

jakson I don’t think I’ll ever be able to pray for my enemies! kansikuva

I don’t think I’ll ever be able to pray for my enemies!

Rico Lane [00:00:00]: What's happening everybody? It's your boy, Rico, coming at you with another episode of Reddit Replies. Today, we're gonna be diving into a topic that touches the heart of our faith right as Christians. That is praying for those who may be the hardest people to pray for And I'm talking about our enemies. So I'm gonna roll right into the post that's shared with us today from this believer who's actually wrestling with this very challenge. Let's see what they got to say. Reddit User [00:00:26]: I don't think I'll ever be able to pray for my enemies. Does that make me a fake Christian? People are awful. I do not want these people in heaven with us. Does this make me a fake Christian or just a weak imperfect human? Thanks. Praise King Jesus. Rico Lane [00:00:41]: Does it make you a fake Christian or a weak and perfect person? Well, first off, the fact that you are either asking this question, the fact that you're dealing with this shows that you take your Christian walk serious. Right? It shows that, this is not something you're taking lightly, and I gotta commend you for being completely honest about it. But the reality of it is is being a Christian is not about being perfect. It's about following Christ's example. It's about believing in our hearts that he died for our sins. It's about accepting him as our lord and savior. And so as our lord, we're willing to do his will even when it's tough. So I wanna unpack what you got going on here with a little bit of guidance and help from the word. Rico Lane [00:01:20]: So first off, I wanna go to Romans chapter 10 verse 9. It tells us straight up, if you openly declare that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. So if you have done that, then you're not a fake Christian. I it's not up for me to determine whether you're a fake Christian or not. Only God can judge your heart. Right? And it's all about believing in your heart. And if you're wrestling with these feelings towards your enemies, it's honestly a sign of something going on in your heart. Right? And you probably need to dig a little deeper on what it means to believe in your heart. Rico Lane [00:01:58]: And see, for me, believing in your heart is accepting that Christ's way is better than your way, accepting that he knows more than what you know, accepting that you're gonna follow his will. And that includes for us to love and pray for our enemies. Pray for those that we'd rather not pray for. Right? And so then I want to go to 1st John chapter 4 verse 20, right? It says, if someone says I love God but hates a fellow believer, that person is a liar. For if we don't love people we can see, how can we love God whom we cannot see? And he has given us this command. Those who love God must also love their fellow believers. Now check this out. If your enemy, somebody you don't like, somebody you feel are bad, right, they if they accepted Christ, then now they're your brother and sister. Rico Lane [00:02:46]: And that may be a tough pill to swallow, but that's just the truth. And we are called to love them. We are called to pray for them. We are called to, let them know when they're doing wrong with grace and truth. That's what we're called to do. It is not up to us to determine who gets to go to heaven and who doesn't or who deserve heaven and who doesn't because if that's the case, none of us deserve it. And I'll be honest with you, not to be harsh, but you sound like the story of the unforgiving debtor. So in Matthew 18 verse 21, right, it's about this guy who got his massive debt wiped clean by the king because he begged and pleaded with the king and the king had mercy on him and the king forgave him of his debt. Rico Lane [00:03:26]: But then he turned around and choked out this dude who owed him way less money. And the king finds out this and he's like, you should have had mercy just like I did for you. Right? And see, in this parable, we we often read that and be like, how could this guy not forgive this person with a little debt when he literally just got forgiven of a huge debt? And that's what we do every day with God. God has forgiven us a debt that we could have never ever paid back. So then who are we to not forgive other people? Who are we not to want to pray for other people? Who are we to determine who should go to heaven and who shouldn't? Right? I mean, a lot of times people will spend 1,000 of dollars on weddings, right? And honeymoons and get married and then they'll say something like, well, if this person did this, fill in the blank, then I'm done. It's over. When the marriage is supposed to be forever, right? And or if this person did this, I can't forgive them or whatever the case may be. And if that whatever that thing is, whatever that line is, if so and so did x, well, then God should have to forgive me. Rico Lane [00:04:29]: You need to be questioning your heart in that situation. See, this parable that Jesus dropped on us is a direct call out that forgiving and praying for our enemies isn't optional. It's a core of who we call to be. Why? Because we expect God to forgive us. As simple as that. I got another one for you. Remember your boy Jonah, right? Everybody, you know, we learned about him as a kid. We all learned he's the guy who's stuck in the well. Rico Lane [00:04:54]: And a lot of times the well overshadowed the actual story, at least it did for me. Right? But anyway, God told Jonah to hit up Nineveh. I'm probably mispronouncing that. And he told him to warn those jokers to get their act together or they gonna have to face his wrath. And Jonah wasn't having it because he thought that they didn't deserve God mercy. See, he knew how merciful God was that if they ask for forgiveness, God will forgive them. And he didn't want God to forgive them. This sounds like you. Rico Lane [00:05:20]: You don't wanna be in heaven with your enemies. Right? Long story short, Jonah ends up in the whale's belly to think it over to get his attitude right until he aligned it with God's will. And see, Jonah's resistance and then eventual obedience teach us that dodging God's command is not the move, especially when it comes to extending grace. That's not what you wanna do, man. I'm telling you. And this brings me to Hebrews chapter 12 verse 6. It says, for the Lord discipline those he loves and he punished each one he accepts as his child. You hear that? So you're asking if you are a fake Christian or not. Rico Lane [00:05:56]: Right? And what you really should be worried about is if you are a real Christian and you're blankly disobeying God, not praying for your enemies, not wanting them in heaven, you should be worried about what God is gonna do to you as his child, right? Because as tough as it sounds, God discipline is about shaping us and pruning us to bear more fruit, to reflect his love more clearly, even to those that we'd rather not do it to. Right? And so you may be putting yourself in a situation to deal with a world of hurt that you would never have to deal with if you simply be obedient just like Jonah won't have to deal with. So to you, my brother or sister, because I'm not sure whether you're a male or female who post this. I use the female in your little avatar there. But whoever this is dealing with this struggle, the real question is not whether you're a fake Christian or not. It's about what steps are you gonna take to start being more like Christ. What steps are you gonna take to be less like you and more like Jesus even when it's hard? What steps are you are you gonna allow the holy spirit to guide you through the sanctification process, turning your heart towards what god desire and not what you desire. I'm praying for you, and I urge that you dive deeper into those stories I shared, the unforgiving debtor and Jonah. Rico Lane [00:07:08]: Let them marinate. Let God speak to you on it and hopefully you have a change of heart. And to everybody who tuned in, man, hit me up in the comments with your thoughts. Share your view point on it. Share your struggles. How have you navigated with it? And if I earned it, hit that like button, man. Subscribe, follow, whether you're listening on podcasts or whether you're looking at it on YouTube, whatever way, man. Like it, share it. Rico Lane [00:07:33]: So that way we can get more people in. And if you have any, Reddit questions that you want me to do, then share those as well, and I'll make videos on those and, answer your questions right here live. So until next time, man, keep praying to give your enemy 70 times 7. Right? We're all a work in progress. None of us deserve God's mercy. And we're all trying to move towards something more beautiful, something that's more in line with God's will, to basically be more like Christ and less like us. So until next time.

Seeing Beyond School Stress! How to balance faith, responsibilities, and school burnout! Reddit Replies

Rico Lane: Hey. What's going on everybody? I am Rico bringing you another heartfelt edition of Reddit Replies. Man, today we're touching on the topic that I don't care who you are. I know it's gonna hit home for you. I'm talking stress. I'm talking dealing with school, a bunch of different tasks, balancing life and trying to keep the faith in the mix of all the things that are thrown at us. We got a story from a young soul out there who's feeling the weight of the world on her shoulders y'all. So let's go ahead and lean in, listen, and share your comments in the comment section. Rico Lane: Holler back at your boy and we're gonna see if we can shed some light at the end of the tunnel for this young lady. Let's go ahead and check out her Reddit post. Reddit User: School is so draining right now. I'm doing math homework and I'm crying because not only do I not know how to do it, but I have an essay to do, research, and so much more homework. I can't handle it. It's too much for me. I can never get a break and I always feel stressed. How am I supposed to do my best when I can't even find the energy to pray or read my bible? School is always gonna be here and it's not like I can just be like, nah, I'm just gonna quit school. I can't do that. But it's like, why do I have to do this? Why do I have to do all this work? Why do I have to keep going? I don't want to. Reddit User: I really, truly don't. I don't see any end to this because guess what? I have to do this for my senior year and then when I go to college. I don't wanna study and stress out until I die. I don't wanna live a life like this. I really do try to balance it but I just can't. How can I pray, read my bible, get enough sleep, and do all my homework all in one day? I know god knows my future but am I just to not try? I don't even know what I wanna be when I graduate. I don't know anything. I'm just doing stuff that everyone else is doing to seem impressive to colleges. Reddit User: I want God to help me because I can't do this anymore. The work never stops coming. I listen to Christian music when I get on my bus to school, but it doesn't calm me down or take away my emptiness, dread, and terrible fear that I'll never be someone. Rico Lane: Man, sister, first off, you gotta breathe, man. You're feeling they're valid. Don't get me wrong. And that amount of stress you're feeling, it is real. Right? But it's also temporary. Nothing lasts forever. What you're sowing right now are those seas of hard work, of discipline. And trust me, they're gonna bloom into something beyond what you can see at this moment. Rico Lane: I get it. I've been there. School can be stressful. Life can be stressful. Trust me. It doesn't get that much easier when you get older, but you learn how to deal with it. You You learn how to overcome. It's just a test. Rico Lane: It's only a chapter in your bigger story. Nothing lasts forever. It is a temper rarely season. Trust me. Matter of fact, Galatians chapter 6 verses 7 through 9 tell us, don't be misled. You cannot mock the justice of God. You will always harvest what you plant. Those who live only to satisfy their own sinful nature will harvest decay and death from that sinful nature. Rico Lane: But those who live to please the spirit will harvest everlasting life from the spirit. You see right now your flesh wants you to quit. Your flesh wants you to give in. Your flesh wants you to stop believing in God and trusting that God gonna take care of you. But he got you. You got a responsibility right now to complete school. That's what you should be stewarding over, right? You're learning lessons that's going to help prepare you to be more successful in life. That is currently your role and that's what God has for you. Rico Lane: And no matter what, you need to do it as if you're doing it for the Lord. Because ultimately that's your master and that's who you're doing it for. So go hard at it. Crush it. Trust me. You got this. No matter what, don't get tired of doing what is good. At just the right time, you will reap a harvest of blessing if if you don't give up. Rico Lane: Now right now, it might seem like all you plant are tears and frustration, but trust me, you're also planting resilience. You're planting knowledge. You're planting, dedication. You're planting faith, and the harvest is coming soon. Right? All the dedication you putting in, all the studying, all the late nights, all preparing you for a future filled with success, stability, and satisfaction. If you do what is hard now, your life will be easy. But if you do what is easy now, later on your life's gonna be hard. I believe that was Les Brown who said that you just gotta give your seeds time to grow, sister. Rico Lane: In fact, you can actually, learn a lesson from the apostle Paul. Now if anybody, if anybody had the right to be stressed and want to give up, it was Paul. This brother was beaten. He was ran out of city. He was put in prison and he still said the following in Romans chapter 5, starting at verse 3. We can rejoice too when we run into problems and trials. We can rejoice when we run into problems and trials for we know they help us develop endurance. Right now, sister, you're developing endurance endurance and endurance develops strength of character. Rico Lane: Right now, sister, you're developing and you're strengthening your character and character strength is our confident hope of salvation. Matter of fact, the more you trust in God, the more you grow and be obedient to God, the more you're gonna trust in salvation and you will feel his presence. And this hope will not lead to disappointment for we know how dearly God love us because he's given us the Holy Reddit to fill our hearts with his love. And not only that, the Holy Spirit is our helper. And when we feel like it's too much, when you're feeling like you just wanna roll over and quit, when you feel like you're just done and you can't take no more, meditate on Philippians chapter 4 verse 13. Matter of fact, it says, for I can do everything through Christ who gives me strength. And see, this isn't just about powering through math homework or banging out essays or doing all the different things your teacher and your parents require of you. It's about knowing that even in the overwhelm, you're not alone. Rico Lane: God's got you. He gives you strength to face each day bit by bit. And trust me, I am speaking from experience. I've been where you were at. I remember working on my bachelor's then my master's. I remember being in school. Like, is this it? Is this like, how am I gonna make a living? How I I can't take this no more. Is this what life is all about? Kind of felt like Solomon in Ecclesiastes like vanity, vanity, vanity. Rico Lane: Life is just vanity. Right? But I felt that same pressure. I had that same doubt. But looking back to where I'm standing now, it all makes sense. The school, the late nights, the stress, it was all preparing me for challenges and triumphs ahead. Matter of fact, I found myself blessed with so many opportunities. I can't even imagine. I I I can't even dreamed it up, man. Rico Lane: I had the opportunity to teach at the University of Georgia. Go, dawgs. I served as a commission officer in the greatest air force in the world. And now I'm retired from the air force and not only do I get my retirement, not only do I get disability, I also got a rewarding 6 figure career. And it all started from being disciplined in school and trusting God's plan. Now, I wanna talk about managing it all and I got this concept. I don't remember where I learned it from but I call it the closest alligator to the boat. This is when this concept kicks in. Rico Lane: Right? You need to focus on what's most present, your closest alligator. Imagine you in a boat and there's alligators all around you and the alligators are trying to sink your boat. You gotta take out the closest alligator first. Right? And so you have to learn to prioritize your biggest tasks that are threatening to sink your boat. So if you got a test tomorrow, then you know tonight I need to study. And maybe the assignment that's due 2 weeks from now, I can work on that this weekend. You know, but you gotta learn how to prioritize those things. Set smaller goals, knock them out. Rico Lane: And when you knock them out, you have this sense of accomplishment to help you wanna keep going. Time management is key. And as far as time with the Lord, right, instead of one long prayer, right, keep those mini prayers rolling throughout the day, especially when you feel like you don't have time for a dedicated prayer session. Right? And I'm talking before you go go to class, before you take a test, before you interact with people and your friends or your teachers, right? And even when you first wake up in the morning, just give God thanks. Even if it's just a quick, God, give me focus and strength. Allow the Holy Spirit to lead me, Lord. Help me to not be anxious or stressed. Allow me to operate in love with everybody I deal with today. Rico Lane: Allow me to remember what what what I need to do to handle this and handle that. Help me to be more productive. He hears you always and remember, you're building a future where you won't have to be that elderly person with that minimum wage job working way past the retirement age and they doing it because they have to. They have nothing else. They couldn't do anything else because of different choices they made in life. You don't wanna be that person. So you Reddit yourself up to have a life filled with options and opportunities and, yes, even rest. Please note that God understand the need for rest. Rico Lane: Matter of fact, he encourages it which is why he instituted the Sabbath day. Sometimes we hustle so hard, we get so stressed, we feel like we're about to explode and all we really need is just a nap, right, and some good old r and r, what we call it in the military. Taking a break is not a sign of weakness but instead, it's actually a sign of wisdom. This actually reminds me of Elijah. Right? You can read the story in 1st Kings, 9, 1st Kings 19 verse 5. But, anyway, this brother was so depressed. He went out into the wilderness and actually prayed to God that he might die. Do you know how bad it has to be for you to ask God to allow you to die? Right? Asking your creator to go ahead and take you out. Rico Lane: However, while he was sleeping, an angel came, woke him up, told him to eat, and then guess what? God sent him right back on mission. And so when you get tired, take a nap, eat a snack, and then get back at it. Don't give up. God got you. Keep your head up, sister. You're not just going through the motions. You're crafting a future that you will thank yourself for later. And in all of it, just keep God first. Rico Lane: He's walking with you every step of the way. Trust me.
