Reprogramming your mind through hypnotherapy: Adrian Wesley

Adrian Wesley is a Clinical Hypnotherapist who has been studying human optimization for over 23 years. Through passionate learning, he’s discovered that people have the power to reprogram their brain through repetitive affirmations supplemented by hypnotherapy. He lives to improve the health and wellness of his clients, and unlocks the potential of their minds by exercising positivity.  We spoke with Adrian about how you can work to change the way your mind works each day. By creating a habit, he suggests that your mind will eventually come to believe the positive thoughts you’re feeding it. We were truly blown away by his story, and how he emerged from a dark time in his life not only transforming his own mind, but the minds of others. We’re so inspired by his work that we wanted to share it with you all.

Knowledge is Power, and Power is Responsibility: Sam Sullivan

Sam Sullivan is one of Vancouver's biggest change-makers. His list of accomplishments are long and not many can top the impact he has made on the city.  He is the current MLA for Vancouver-False Creek and in running for leadership of the BC Liberal Party. A major highlight from his endless list of successes is his time as the Mayor of Vancouver, bringing Vancouver to the world. Sam has earned other notable titles, including member status as part of the Order of Canada and an induction into the Terry Fox Hall of Fame. He is also the founder of multiple non-profit organizations, including the Sam Sullivan Disability foundation.  Our conversation with Sam touches on many of his milestones. His love for Vancouver shines as he tells, in detail, the dark history of the city and how we can work to solve it. He works to build community in Vancouver through his Public Salons, in which citizens speak on their passions in front of large-scale audiences.  His knowledge and rounded perspective on Vancouver and British Columbia as a whole is truly remarkable. We hope you enjoy hearing from him!

Disrupting Vancouver’s Media Landscape: Farhan Mohamed

Farhan Mohamed is an entrepreneur and a true Vancouver visionary. He has been recognized as one of the city's most influential people, interviewed the Canadian Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau, and is working away building a media empire across the nation. Farhan is the Partner and Editor in Chief of the Daily Hive.  Farhan talks to us about the growth of Daily Hive from the basement to where it is today, the rebranding phase they went through, and how they plan to scale their model to reach tens of millions of people across Canada. As well, Daily Hive was not recognized as a credible news source, and Farhan explains what they did to get over that hurdle.  We also enjoyed his story about how Daily Hive broke the story about Kanye West's cancelled concert and the response the city had.

The Education System Needs Disruption: Martin Laba

Martin Laba has an approach to education and learning that is disruptive and fascinating. Martin is a professor in the School of Communication at Simon Fraser University in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. He is the author of many academic and popular publications, and is a well-known commentator on issues in media and culture in the Canadian national media. Over the past two years, he has worked on international communication projects, specifically with NGOs and community-based groups in Pakistan on communication strategies and interventions for social change. When we spoke to him, he talks about the medieval nature of university and also shares what he believes is the ultimate purpose of a university education. He tells us why he teaches his classes completely differently (NO EXAMS!) and makes it more interactive and tries to show the usefulness of theory when put into practice.  We particularly enjoyed his positive view on millennials, why theatre can be so powerful than theory and his time in Africa and Pakistan.
