Ep. 9 Dance is Still My Language: Dance Chat with Sherry

Welcome to Across the Floors! A podcast about a severely out-of-practice dancer’s attempt to bring dance back into her life by talking about it often (& with friends). It's our last Dance Chat for Season 1! Chatting dance with me this week is Sherry, a fellow Loyola and Tap Team alum, and a super down to earth artist. In this episode, we talk about our experiences growing up in differing types of tap communities and styles. Sherry also give us an introduction to Taiko drumming and shares what it's been like taking up this new (very different, but not totally unrelated) hobby. We also get into the not-so-great parts about experiencing dance in the mainstream and offer some candid thoughts on how to keep the history of our favorite art forms alive while balancing the desire for greater exposure of what we love. Ep. 7 Talking Tap and Inclusivity: Dance Chat with Rachel

Welcome to Across the Floors! A podcast about a severely out-of-practice dancer’s attempt to bring dance back into her life by talking about it often (& with friends). This week’s Dance Chat is with Rachel, one of the kindest people I know, and one of the biggest proponents for the art of tap dance. In this episode, we talk all things tap! We specifically go into the evolution of teaching competitive dance for over a decade and how it impacts the artistic side of dance. We also talk about the intersection of disability and dance. Diving deep into what it means to actually be inclusive and the lasting impression inclusion creates for everyone involved. And don't miss Rachel's excellent brief history of tap dance and insight into where the genre may be headed in the future. Ready to have your own Dance Chat with me? Ep. 6 More to Life Than Dance and Basketball: Dance Chat with Aimee

Welcome to Across the Floors! A podcast about a severely out-of-practice dancer’s attempt to bring dance back into her life by talking about it often (& with friends). This week’s Dance Chat is with one of my oldest friends, the best hype-woman, and one of my favorite non-dancers, Aimee.Today we are talking about what happens when your passion is done and what the heck you do after you "retire" from doing what you loved. We compare the competitiveness mentality in dance and basketball. We also chat about the importance of community and learning to creat community for yourself wherever you go.
