Send us Fan Mail [https://www.buzzsprout.com/2530417/fan_mail/new] This is not our usual episode. On my mom's birthday — twelve years after losing her — I found out my first boss and my mentor, Jack Latvala, had passed away. I hadn't spoken to him in over twenty-five years. But the second I heard, twenty-five years of memories came flooding back, because this man is one of the reasons I'm an entrepreneur at all. Jack Latvala was a former Florida state senator and political power broker, and before any of that — the man who hired a twenty-two-year-old copywriter he'd never met off a single phone call. He was also, by every definition, a tough, demanding, sometimes inappropriate boss who taught me more about business, integrity, and building a career than almost anyone else in my life. In this episode, I'm telling you the stories: the intercom scream that changed how I work forever, the $100,000 mistake that taught me about honesty and checks and balances, the campaign nights that taught me how to celebrate a win, and the complicated truth about a man who was both generous and deeply flawed. This isn't a hormone clinic episode. It's not a business tactics episode. It's a tribute — and an honest look at how the people who shape us rarely fit into neat categories. What we cover: The 1992 phone call that started it all Why "failure is not an option" almost broke me — and what it built instead The $100,000 envelope mistake and the lesson in ownership How Jack quietly took care of his lowest-paid employees Learning to be "at choice" instead of a victim The complicated, honest truth about his legacy We'll be back to our regular programming next week. Ep #71 - The 90-Day Rule That Actually Grows Your Hormone Clinic

Send us Fan Mail [https://www.buzzsprout.com/2530417/fan_mail/new] Ever looked at your marketing spend and thought, "What am I even doing this for?" Jody has too.  More often than you'd think.  Even after thirty years as a marketer and a lifetime as an entrepreneur. In this solo Monday episode, Jody breaks down the single biggest mistake she sees hormone and functional medicine practice owners make with their marketing: switching tactics before they've had time to work. She walks through why consistency — not the "right" tactic — is what actually separates thriving practices from ones running on fumes, how to track the KPIs that tell you whether to stay the course or make a small adjustment, and three completely free marketing actions you can start this week using nothing but the questions your own patients ask you every day. Jody also shares a story from her twenties running fundraising for the Muscular Dystrophy Association — and a "Thursday clinic" ritual that taught her something about staying connected to purpose that she still uses to run Accelerated Medical Practices decades later. This one's for you if you've ever tried something in your marketing, given up after a few weeks, and decided it "just doesn't work for your practice." Jody thinks it wasn't the tactic. It was the timeline. Topics covered: - Why tactic-hopping is the #1 marketing mistake hormone clinic owners make - The mindset shift needed to invest in marketing before you see a return - How to track KPIs without a marketing degree (or a ton of extra time) - Three free, no-budget marketing actions you can start this week - Why your lead follow-up sequence should run six months, not six touches - Jodys Muscular Dystrophy Association story and the "Thursday clinic" ritual - A weekly journaling exercise to reconnect with why you started your clinic - The marathon mindset for building a business that lasts Want more frameworks like this? episode Ep #70 - The one timing mistake that's killing your referrals (and it's not your marketing) artwork

Ep #70 - The one timing mistake that's killing your referrals (and it's not your marketing)

Send us Fan Mail [https://www.buzzsprout.com/2530417/fan_mail/new] Most clinic owners are approaching referrals and reviews completely backwards, and it's costing them thousands in marketing spend they don't need to be spending. In this Thursday 5er, Jody breaks down one of the most overlooked growth levers in a cash-pay practice: timing. Not whether you ask for referrals and reviews, but when. She explains why asking too early in the patient journey gets you lukewarm results (or none at all), and why the 6-8 week follow-up mark is where the magic actually happens. Jody shares a real example from a provider she worked with who flipped their ask timing and went from getting reviews "once in a blue moon" to having them come in consistently, just by moving the ask to the moment patients were actually living their transformation instead of just hoping for one. You'll also hear why the language of the “ask” matters as much as the timing, and why making the patient the hero of their own story (instead of crediting the treatment) is what actually drives advocacy. Topics covered: - Why asking for reviews or referrals too early backfires - The exact moment in the patient journey to make the ask - A real clinic example: from rare reviews to consistent ones - How to script the ask so it feels like a celebration, not a favor - Why patient ownership of their results drives more advocacy than praising your protocol Jody offers a done-for-you ask script to anyone who wants it; details in the episode. Ep #69 - From Patient to Practice Owner: Tina Jacobs' Journey

Send us Fan Mail [https://www.buzzsprout.com/2530417/fan_mail/new] What happens when you spend years as a dismissed patient — and then become the provider you always needed? That's exactly the story Tina Jacobs tells in this episode. As the co-founder of Silk Life Medical, a hormone optimization and wellness clinic, Tina built her entire practice around one core belief: that patients know when something is wrong, and they deserve a provider who believes them. Her journey from struggling with fatigue and weight for over a decade, to PA school, to opening a cash-pay hormone clinic with her husband Nick — it's the kind of origin story that explains everything about how she runs her business today. Jody and Tina go deep on what it actually looks like to build a practice with your spouse, why Tina finally hired a bookkeeper (and what she discovered when she did), and the hard-won marketing lessons that cost her time, money, and more than a few "I should've trusted my gut" moments. If you're building a hormone or functional medicine practice and you want a real, unfiltered conversation about standards, team, and growth — this episode delivers. Topics covered: • How Tina's personal health journey as a patient shaped her entire approach to running a clinic • What it's really like to build a business with your spouse — the good, the messy, and the financial blind spots • How to hire for "relentless drive" when the medical industry is built for hourly-wage workers • Why Tina looks for failed entrepreneurs when building her team — and why it works • Her honest take on marketing failures, contractor disappointments, and why she finally learned to trust her gut • The referral-first growth strategy she used from day one (and why she'd do it again) • Why she's building a social media presence as an educator — and what she'd tell any provider thinking about doing the same • Her advice for new practitioners coming out of WorldLink or A4M and thinking about opening their own clinic Connect with Tina: Website: https://silklife.com/ Want more tools and strategies for growing your hormone or functional medicine clinic? Ep #68 - You Hired Great — Now What? The Onboarding System That Keeps Them

Send us Fan Mail [https://www.buzzsprout.com/2530417/fan_mail/new] You did the hard part — you found the right person. So why do so many great hires still walk out the door before 90 days? In this Thursday 5er, Jody breaks down the onboarding system that every hormone and functional medicine clinic owner needs — whether you're hiring your very first team member or scaling a growing practice. Onboarding isn't just paperwork and passwords. It's the bridge between a great hire and a confident, contributing team member. And when it's done right, it protects your patient experience, your culture, and your sanity. In this episode, Jody covers: • Why most employees quit in the first 90 days — and how structured onboarding prevents it • What pre-onboarding looks like and why day one should feel seamless before it starts • How to build a 30/60/90 plan with SMART goals you can reuse for every future hire • Stage-specific onboarding: what works when you're in survival mode vs. scaling with a team • The non-negotiable training every single hire must receive (yes, including HRT fundamentals) • How to treat onboarding as a continuous system — not a project you check off Whether you're a one-provider shop or running a multi-staff clinic, there's a version of this that fits where you are right now. Jody walks you through all of it in under ten minutes. Ready to stop reinventing the wheel every time you hire? The Accelerator has the 30/60/90 templates, compliance training, and HRT onboarding content already built for you. 👉 Visit The Accelerator: accelerator.acceleratedmedicalpractices.com 📍 Find us on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, iHeart, and YouTube.
