Spring '21 - 1 - Cortney Burgess - Upstate Fatherhood Coalition
For the first episode of cNOMAS' podcast series, our hosts interview Cortney Burgess - Site Director for Anderson's Upstate Fatherhood Coalition location.
Born and raised in the coastal region of South Carolina, Cortney attended and graduated from SC State University. During his time there, he served in various leadership roles and student government. Undoubtedly, he believes it refined and prepared him for the career and roles that he now holds.
After relocating to Los Angeles, Cortney honed many skills that added to his professional acumen. To his advantage, those skills afforded him a fledging role as the youngest Director in his agency and State. He devotes this time to father advocacy. Assisting fathers in providing an array of positive support for their children and family. He endeavors in helping fathers obtain stable employment and careers, and educational attainments, child support guidance, parental mediation, expungement and pardoning assistance, visitation and custody assistance, and comprehensive parenting education. He currently serves as the Board of Director, Chairman for Rebuilding Lives Coalition, where he provides governance on re-entry efforts within the county. In addition, he is a member of the Board of Directors for Sunbelt Human Advancement Resources (S.H.A.R.E.), governing the Private Sector of Anderson County.
In his leisure, he devotes much of his time to the development of the public speaking company, The I’mPerfect Project, where he facilitates modules on Leadership Development, Career Exploration & Development, Adverse Childhood Experiences (A.C.E.’s), Image Management, Philanthropy, and Diversity, Equity & Inclusion.
Having received awards and recognition as Director of the Year, Young Philanthropist Academy graduate, 107.3’s 2020 History Maker Honoree, and the Human Relations Council 2021 Spotlight Honoree, Cortney prides himself in community engagement and service.
In his spare time, he loves spending time with his family, traveling, reading, and partaking in community outreach efforts.
