Christ the Solid Rock amid the Raging Sea

#003: Uncover the biblical theme of dry land emerging from chaotic waters - from Genesis to Revelation. Christ is our Solid Rock and foundation of our faith. Brance and Lauren talk coffee roast levels: light, medium, dark, what’s the difference? Then they reflect on the theme of the sea and dry land in Scripture. Beginning in Genesis 1, all the way to Revelation 21, they trace this theme, and discuss it light of 1 Corinthians 15.3-4. Christ is our Solid Rock in the midst of the sea of this world. What a blessed and glorious truth that is! Defining Theology: Brance and Lauren have a discussion of theology term The Apostles’ Creed. They answer the questions of: What it is? Where it came from? How can it be used in the church? And what is meant by the two controversial lines, He descended into hell, and the holy catholic church? episode Withering Grass and Everlasting Glory - Isaiah 40:7 artwork

Withering Grass and Everlasting Glory - Isaiah 40:7

#002: Like grass that withers, our strength and glory are temporary. But God’s Word and power are everlasting and unshakable. Brance and Lauren and talk about Decaf coffee. Then reflect on Isaiah 40:7-31, exploring the sobering reality of human frailty and the fleeting nature of life. Like grass that withers and flowers that fade, our strength and glory are temporary. Yet, Isaiah directs our hearts to the everlasting Word and unshakable power of God, who never grows weary. We discuss how acknowledging our weakness leads us to rely on the Lord, find comfort in His promises, and experience renewed strength as we wait on Him. When discussing theology, defining your terms is important. Brance and Lauren have a discussion of theology term Confession of Faith, what a Confession is, how a Confession contributes to Christian unity, and how they should be used. episode Solitary Sovereign: God’s Peerless Perfections with Pink artwork

Solitary Sovereign: God’s Peerless Perfections with Pink

#001: Discover how God existed self-sufficiently before creation, needing nothing, and how His glory is revealed solely by His sovereign will and self-revelation through Scripture and Spirit. Brance and Lauren introduce themselves and talk about Ethiopian coffee. Then they discuss chapter one of A.W. Pink’s book The Attributes of God. This chapter explores God’s solitariness. God existed alone and self-sufficiently before creation, requiring nothing, and gaining nothing from His creation. His decision to create was a sovereign act of His will, solely for the manifestation of His glory, not out of necessity or obligation. God’s perfections, including His sovereignty, transcendence, and independence, set Him apart from humanity. Human reason cannot fully comprehend God, but only through His self-revelation in Scripture and the work of the Holy Spirit in the hearts of believers can we know Him. When discussing theology, defining your terms is important. Brance and Lauren have a discussion of theology term Creed, what it means, why it’s important, and how the creeds should be used. episode CCT: The First Cup artwork

CCT: The First Cup

Have you ever found yourself sipping your morning coffee and wondering… what in Babylon is Jeremiah 29.11 really about? Then you’ve come to the right place. Coffee Cup Theology is the podcast where good theology meets good coffee. Each week, Pastor Brance Gillihan and his wife, Lauren, will help you savor the goodness of God and His Word. Here's a taste… of what we have planned. Two episodes per month, we’ll immerse ourselves (a little baptist and coffee humor there) in the text of Scripture. We’ll pick a verse and consider it in context. Sometimes we’ll pick verses that are regularly abused and misapplied. Other times we’ll look at verses that are just ignored because they’re difficult or uncomfortable. One episode per month will be dedicated to reading through some theological books together and having a discussion about the doctrines and ideas we find. We’ll be reading Bavinck, Vos, Pink, Owen, and others. Once a month we’ll have an episode dedicated to a conversation about something I’ve read or studied in the course of my sermon preparation that we feel warrants a fresh cup and a conversation. Each episode we’ll be talking coffee as well. We’ll talk about our favorite beans, roasts, brewing methods, and mugs. Each episode will also feature a definition and brief discussion of an important theological term, to help you grow in your knowledge and understanding of God’s Word. Don’t miss a conversation! Subscribe now on Apple Podcasts… Or wherever you listen! And be sure to visit CoffeeCupTheology.com [CoffeeCupTheology.com], to join the conversation, send us a question, and subscribe for email updates. So pour yourself a fresh cup, settle in, and join us every Monday, beginning in May 2026, as we… Taste and see that the Lord is good!
