Episode 12 - DeKalb
Thomas reaches DeKalb, Illinois on June 20, 2026, tired from the road and carrying Wisconsin’s red stone close to his chest. He comes looking for coffee, shade, and a few quiet minutes. DeKalb gives him something stranger: a downtown Pride festival, a gifted paper crown, a table where people can sit down without performing, and a lesson he does not yet know how to receive.
This is an episode about discomfort that does not become contempt, welcome that still needs boundaries, and sanctuary that has to be tended from inside the room.
No one in DeKalb asks Thomas to understand everything. The day asks whether he can stay long enough to see one thing clearly.
