One has to feel for those folks with the “STOP” and “SLOW” spinny signs that manage traffic in road construction areas. They are there whether the temperatures are sub-freezing in the winter or nearing 100 degrees in the summer. Of course, their primary purpose is to not only route traffic around the blocked roadway, but also to ensure the safety of the construction workers as well as those driving through the area. Likewise, we will encounter roadblocks in life, whether seen or unseen, and the goal is to get beyond them in the best way possible. The good news is that we have an Advocate to help us do just that. For a very long time, humans have identified the heart as the center or seat of our emotions. Jesus said that those things that take priority in our hearts is what we really treasure the most. The question each of us needs to answer is, will what we prioritize make any eternal difference in our lives or in the lives of those around us? Maybe we need to set aside our wants and desires, dig a little deeper, and let the One that loves us the most take first place in our hearts.
