Holy Cross Connection, #10: Metropolitan Nathanael of Chicago- Called to Serve

This week, we are pleased to bring you a new episode of Holy Cross Connections with His Grace, Bishop Anthony Vrame.  Join Bishop Anthony for an edifying conversation with His Eminence Metropolitan Nathanael of the Metropolis of Chicago to discuss Called to Serve: Journeys to Ordained Ministry. This book is a unique collection of testimonies, as told by the faithful clergy of the Greek Orthodox Metropolis of Chicago of the Archdiocese of America. His Eminence, Metropolitan Nathanael, opens the book with his own introduction and story of his journey to ordained ministry. “It is my fervent hope and prayer that this initiative not only strengthens the bonds among the clergy,” he wrote, “but also inspires vulnerability, trust, and a renewed sense of purpose." Listen to today’s episode for a unique chance to hear more from His Eminence on the initiative and intention behind Call to Serve and the need for more conversations between clergy and laity.  * You can purchase your copy of Called to Serve and many other edifying titles here [https://holycrossbookstore.com/products/called-to-serve-journeys-to-ordained-ministry?_pos=1&_sid=0af40a998&_ss=r] * As Orthodox Christians, we believe that none of the topics or concepts discussed in these podcasts can be detached from our lived tradition.  So, if you are interested in visiting an Orthodox Church, or you are just looking for a local parish to start attending, we have included a link [https://www.goarch.org/parishes%E2%81%A0] to the Parish Directory of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America to encourage and aid you in finding a community to visit or become a part of today. * Are you interested in enrolling in classes at HCHC?  Visit our enrollment page [https://www.hchc.edu/admissions-apply/%E2%81%A0] for more information. * Your continued support aids our institution in continuing to educate the future leaders of our church communities. Spiritual Gems From The Holy Cross Bookstore, # 8: Fr. Patrick Viscuso - Guide for a Church under Islam

This week, we are pleased to bring you a new episode of Spiritual Gems from the Holy Cross Bookstore, this time with Fr. Patrick Viscuso.  Fr. Patrick has published numerous books with us at Holy Cross Press. His book, A Guide for a Church Under Islam, is Fr. Patrick’s original translation. The twelfth-century document has myriad interesting features relevant for Church history, including its record of ancient Christian practices and the internal life of Arabic Christians living in what would become modern Egypt, Palestine, Lebanon, and Syria. The translation, as well as its annotations and introductory history, represents a unique and fascinating time capsule of the Church's history.  Join us in this episode to get to know Fr. Patrick and hear his personal and informed insights on this text and its relevance.  * You can purchase your copy of Guide for a Church Under Islam, and many other edifying titles here [https://holycrossbookstore.com/products/guide-for-a-church-under-islam?_pos=1&_psq=guide+for+a+church+under+islam&_ss=e&_v=1.0] * As Orthodox Christians, we believe that none of the topics or concepts discussed in these podcasts can be detached from our lived tradition. Holy Cross Connection, #8: Fr. Patrick Viscuso and John Margetis - An Introduction to Answers to Liturgical Questions

Welcome back to Holy Cross Connections! After a long hiatus (thank you for your patience with us), we could not be more excited to roll out a new episode for you all. This week, we have an episode with Fr. Patrick Viscuso and John Margetis, the esteemed editors of Answers to Liturgical Questions by Iōannēs M. Phountoulēs.  The Answers to Liturgical Questions series has long been recognized as a preeminent resource and gold standard in Orthodox liturgical studies. Until now, this monumental work was only available in modern Greek with numerous quotations taken directly from the primary sources. With the release of the English translation, the series is now accessible to a broader audience seeking reputable, practical, and valuable information on liturgical practices and theology in the Eastern Christian world. The over six hundred answers and questions address an expansive range of topics, including liturgy, canon law, scripture, and theology, through historical context and diverse original source materials. Over almost forty years, Professor Phountoulēs sought to make the development of liturgy and ecclesial life comprehensible to the faithful, clergy, and laity so that they could understand and find spiritual meaning in worship. We hope you enjoy this conversation between His Grace Bishop Anthony, Fr. Patrick, John, and Nicholas. If you want to hear more about the work of Professor Phountoulēs, join us on Friday, 02/21, at 2:30 pm for an exclusive Answers to Liturgical Questions event with Fr. Patrick and Mr. Margetis. Attend in person at the Maliotis Cultural Center or join via livestream! [https://www.youtube.com/live/2C4mP0FpFhA] You can purchase your set of Answers to Liturgical Questions on our website [https://holycrossbookstore.com/collections/answers-to-liturgical-questions].
