The Community Optimist
One of the most common frustrations we hear at The Gathering Lab - "I know plenty of acquaintances but I want closer friendships...how do I find my people?" I get it - You've joined the clubs. You've done the coffee chats. You've taken initiative. And somehow, you're still stuck at surface level — or you're always the one reaching out. This episode is about why that happens and why it's probably not about you. We dig into the research on how long it actually takes to build a close friendship, why so many connections stall out before they get there, and what I've started calling the alignment question — the new factor in friendship-building that has nothing to do with chemistry. Plus: how to tell the difference between someone who genuinely can't meet you where you are right now versus someone who just might need a different kind of nudge. Questions? Insights? Reactions?
