Iconic Leadership: Knowing, Accessing and Using Your Power

Send us Fan Mail [https://www.buzzsprout.com/2533963/fan_mail/new] Welcome to Live, Learn, Teach, Inspire. In this episode, we explore a subject that sits at the heart of extraordinary influence and meaningful leadership. The art of iconic leadership. Our host, Dr Philip Sykes, Founder and CEO of The British School of Excellence, is joined by a remarkable guest whose work has inspired women and leaders around the world. Dr Justina Mutale. Justina is an international speaker, author and founder of the Justina Mutale Foundation. Her work focuses on leadership, education and empowerment, particularly for women and girls seeking to step forward with confidence and purpose. Together, Philip and Justina explore a powerful idea. That every truly influential leader understands something fundamental about power. Not power in the sense of authority or control, but the deeper power that comes from self-knowledge, conviction and purpose. In this conversation, they examine three essential dimensions of leadership development. Knowing your power. Accessing your power. And ultimately learning how to utilise that power in ways that influence others and create meaningful change. The discussion also draws on the themes of Justina Mutale’s book, The Power of Female World Leaders, which celebrates the impact of women who have transformed societies through courage, compassion and determined leadership. Through real examples and thoughtful reflection, this episode invites you to consider your own leadership potential and the ways your influence can contribute to a more thoughtful, balanced, and forward-looking world. So wherever you are listening from, join us as we explore what it truly means to master the art of iconic leadership. https://justinamutale.com/ Support the show [https://www.buzzsprout.com/2533963/support] https://thebritishschoolofexcellence.com

Child Safeguarding: What Every Parent and Educator Should Know

Send us Fan Mail [https://www.buzzsprout.com/2533963/fan_mail/new] Today, we are exploring a subject that sits quietly behind every positive learning experience a child has, yet is often spoken about far too little. Child safeguarding. Many of us can trace our development back to a teacher, mentor, or coach who believed in us and guided us along the way. Teaching, in any form, is a privilege. When someone entrusts you with their child’s development, they are also entrusting you with their safety and well-being. That responsibility reaches far beyond the classroom. Our guest today, Claire Murphy, works with Merlin Tuition, a British tutoring agency built around the values of strong academic standards, professionalism and respect. At the centre of their approach lies a commitment that should exist in every place where children are taught, coached, or mentored. Safeguarding. In schools across the United Kingdom, safeguarding is embedded into professional practice. Staff are trained to recognise concerns, maintain appropriate boundaries and understand how to respond if something does not feel right. But outside formal school environments, in private tutoring, clubs, coaching and enrichment activities, the picture is often far less clear. Many people working with children are dedicated professionals with the very best intentions. Yet without clear safeguarding practices, training and accountability, both children and practitioners remain vulnerable. In this conversation, we explore what safeguarding really means, why it matters beyond the classroom and how parents can feel more confident asking the right questions when choosing activities or support for their children. This discussion is not designed to alarm anyone. Its purpose is far simpler and far more constructive. To raise awareness, to encourage transparency and to help create environments where children can learn, grow and flourish safely. #ChildSafeguarding  #ChildProtection  #SafeguardingChildren  #ChildSafety  #SafeLearningEnvironments Support the show [https://www.buzzsprout.com/2533963/support] https://thebritishschoolofexcellence.com

Twelve World Titles and Counting: Oscar Chalupsky on Discipline, Longevity and Defying Cancer

Send us Fan Mail [https://www.buzzsprout.com/2533963/fan_mail/new] In this compelling episode, Philip is joined by Oscar Chalupsky, international speaker, twelve-time World Champion paddler, Olympian, author and cancer warrior. Few athletes in the world of endurance sport hold a record comparable to Oscar’s. His journey began during his school years and quickly accelerated. At just fifteen, he made national headlines at the South African Surf Lifesaving Championships by winning both the Junior and Senior Ironman titles on the same day. In 1983, he claimed his first Molokai World Championship title in the gruelling open-ocean race. He would go on to win it twelve times. Oscar represented South Africa as Olympic Canoe Team Captain at the 1992 Barcelona Olympics, cementing his place among the sport’s elite. Yet what makes his story remarkable is not only longevity, but discipline. Approaching fifty, he set himself a new target. Not because he had something to prove, but because he is deeply goal driven. His preparation for Molokai began with a 4:15 am start. Email check. Three kilometre run to the gym. Strength work in the sauna. A one kilometre swim. Forty-five minute spin class. Run home. Afternoon downwind paddle or focused technique session. The routine was deliberate, structured and uncompromising. Oscar maintains that age is less about years and more about motivation. His view is simple. The stopwatch matters more than the calendar. Performance is measured by commitment, not by assumptions about what should decline. In this conversation, Philip and Oscar explore elite performance, mental resilience, discipline, recovery, and the mindset required to compete at the highest level across decades. They also reflect on what it means to face serious illness and continue to show up with strength and perspective. If you are leading a team, building a career, or simply questioning what is possible in your next chapter, this episode offers grounded insight from someone who has tested his limits repeatedly and chosen to rise each time.
