Exploring Hakodate, Japan 🇯🇵 | Seafood Market, Tram Ride & Local Eats!

We’ve made it to our very first port in Japan — beautiful Hakodate on the island of Hokkaido! 🇯🇵 Despite a bit of rain, we jumped right into the adventure with a stroll through the famous Hakodate Morning Market, where we were blown away by the incredible displays of fresh seafood, crab legs, and even live squid. 🦀🐙After exploring the market and grabbing a few snacks (yes, Pocky and almond cookies included), we hopped on the Hakodate tram using our IC card and headed toward the Mt. Hakodate Ropeway — only to find it closed due to weather. But not to worry! We stumbled into a community radio station, discovered some very interesting insect vending machines, and finished the day with a stop at the popular Lucky Pierrot for one of the best chicken sandwiches in Japan 🍔.This episode captures the charm, hospitality, and surprises of Hakodate — from clean streets and friendly locals to tech-savvy taxis and delicious food. Whether you're planning a cruise stop or just dreaming of Japan, this video offers a slice of local life and off-the-beaten-path fun.🎟️ Travel Tip: Hakodate’s tram system is affordable and easy to navigate with an IC card. Morning market closes by 1:00 PM, so start early!

One Day in Sendai: Pizza, Loop Bus & City of Trees

Our Japan adventure continues in Sendai, known as the City of Trees! 🌳 With only a few short hours to explore, we hopped on the Loople sightseeing bus for a whirlwind tour of the city’s highlights. From crowded streets and packed buses to peaceful neighborhoods, Sendai gave us a glimpse of both its history and modern charm. Before sightseeing, we treated ourselves to our first pizza in four months 🍕 — a delicious stop at Dumbo Pizza in Sendai Station. No sushi, no ramen this time… just honey & fromage pizza for Lynn and pineapple margarita for Paul!Although time was short and the crowds were heavy, we still enjoyed Sendai’s beauty and hospitality. We even made a quick stop for coffee and a lemon “donut” at Motherport Coffee before hurrying back to catch our shuttle.Highlights include:Riding the Loople Sendai bus (with 100 passengers packed on board!)Delicious lunch at Dumbo Pizza (our first pizza in months)Coffee & lemon donut at Motherport CoffeeQuick city views and impressions of Sendai, Japan’s “City of Trees”Reflections on travel pace, patience, and crowds in Japan📍 Location: Sendai, Japan🛳 Part of our 4-year world cruise aboard the Villa Vie Odyssey
