After being gifted headscarves accompanied by a note that said “You can do this” during her treatment, she founded @hopescarves, bringing hope and community to thousands of people. Then, after 7 years in remission, she was diagnosed again - this time with Stage IV Metastatic Breast Cancer. With her new reality, Lara had to redefine hope for herself and for her organization: to live life over cancer.
We sit down with Austin Perlmutter to discuss how toxic social media and mindless internet scrolling has become something that our brains have been hardwired to do. While it isn't currently coined "addiction" in our country, the ways that our brains are stimulated based on social media is directly correlated with dopamine rush. It very closely mimics addictive behavior. We have become trained to depend on it for stimulation.
