episode BLACK POWER WOULD REQUIRE A CHANGE IN CULTURE artwork

BLACK POWER WOULD REQUIRE A CHANGE IN CULTURE

In this episode of NewFilters, I break down my thoughts on a black economic and social power and what it requires. A few days ago I shared a post which led to someone asking me “Is Black economic power easily attainable considering all of the systemic injustices we have faced?’ I wanted to rush to say yes, but after breaking it down I realized it wasway more complex. We are slaves to brands and the black dollar flows out of our community almost as fast as we get it. This question definitely had me thinking, very complex question requires an even more complex answer. First thing to conceptualize is what would a black economic/social power look like. We would posses the right to govern ourselves, total control of our education, our own police, owning the neighborhood, in charge of our own food supply, and most importantly our own culture/morals set apart from everyone else. Now in order to sustain this what would it require of the people? This is where things get complex again because we would need a drastic change to accomplish this. Because with the current way of thinking is a black economic rise possible? Go ahead, click on that link to listen in on this conservation to hear some of my ideas on what's needed in-order to rise as an economic and social power.

episode RAP CULTURE IS ANTI-BLACK CULTURE! artwork

RAP CULTURE IS ANTI-BLACK CULTURE!

In this episode, I discuss rap culture and black culture. Most people say rap culture is black culture but is it really? The majority of rappers today claim to be from the “hard streets” where there were only three options out “to rap, sell drugs or play ball.” Both men and women rappers usually rap about having to sell drugs, killing people, sex, cars, and the designer clothes that they have, with an undertone of an overall lack of regard for rules/authority. But is this black culture? I think not. Black culture is rich, beautiful, royal, triumphant, everlasting, trendsetting, did I mention beautiful? And the gifts that we have today have been passed down generations dating back to the beginning of civilization. Today, the mass majority of black people are hard-working people, getting to a check the legal way. The people selling drugs, killing people, robbing, and stealing are a small percentage of us. They go on become rappers and then get the spotlight to speak for us as a community. But is their perspective the common experience of the typical black person? I wonder why the worst of our community get blessed with millions and the most exposure to represent us as a people? Is it part of a more sinister plan to control the role models of the black community? Let’s break it down!!

episode IS KEVIN SAMUELS A CIA AGENT? artwork

IS KEVIN SAMUELS A CIA AGENT?

Jokingly said yes, I don't really think he's working for the CIA. But just like crack and guns were sent into “urban areas” to destroy our community. Was Kevin Samuels sent to finish off the family unit as we know it? People say he's blunt, abrasive, and to the point... but is his advice what we need in the black community right now? With a history of black people not adding to the “American Beauty standard” for years, our women are shamed for being curvy or being too melanated. Media programming pushing hookup culture leaving the idea of committed relationships in shambles. Or the instances of our culture being underrepresented but often imitated do we need another person to tell us how much we don't deserve? Everyone loves trauma so of course people will line up to hear him belittle people, but is this constructive criticism for the benefit of our community or use of sensationalism to get views? Let's take a deeper and BREAK IT DOWN on this new episode of New Filters!

episode “Critical Race Theory Vs. The Protect White Tears Bill” artwork

“Critical Race Theory Vs. The Protect White Tears Bill”

On this episode, Uncle Mugga takes a look at the “SB148” a bill recently passed to protect white people from feeling any “guilt” or “distress” when talking about discrimination in a school or business setting and how it correlates with the critical race theory. National coverage of incidents of police brutality and all that it takes to get a guilty conviction has caused many professors and scholars to re-examine the Critical Race Theory. A theory that racism is embedded in our nations institutions systematically and that today they function to maintain the dominance of white people in our society. With all the information that we have about CRT, scholars have been pushing to introduce CRT curriculum in the schools to include a different perspective. But Florida had a totally different idea. On Jan 19th Florida passed the SB 148 individual freedom bill, affectionately known as the “Protect White Tears” bill. Backed by Governer Ron Desantis this bill will allow a white person to sue a school or business if they are made to feel any distress while being taught about discrimination. If anything screams systemically protecting white people it’s this bill !! Usually I stay from politics but this one was too interesting to stay away from. If you know nothing about this bill join me for this conversation defiantly some gems.
