#87 An Unassuming Action Hero; Edd Stone and All Things Adventurous

This week on Nonsense in the Chaos, I’m sitting down with my adventure buddy, Edd Stone. We spend a lot of our working lives together, whether that’s as Astro Guides at the Observatory peering out into the vastness of space, or with Adventure Sark, taking people scrambling over rocks, out onto the sea in kayaks, dangling off cliffs coasteering, or trying their hand at archery and shooting. Edd is one of those people who somehow manages to be both completely unassuming and quietly extraordinary. A bit of an enigma, a man of few words at times, and yet someone who seems endlessly capable. The sort of person who’ll casually do something wildly impressive and then shrug as though it was nothing much at all. I’m really glad to have him as a friend and partner in crime for all things adventurous on this little island of ours, so I thought it was about time I dragged him into the chaos for a proper chat. #86 Apocalypse Now; Stewardship for the Future

This week on Nonsense in the Chaos, I recorded sat back up in my favourite tree, Satine... or what remains of her. She took the full force of this winter's storms and though she's still alive, just, she stands now in a different form.  Sitting beneath her in the heat, I found myself reflecting on the strange threshold we seem to be standing in as a species. The air feels different. The seasons feel different. The stories we tell ourselves about tomorrow feel different. We often imagine the apocalypse as a sudden event: sirens, collapse, fire falling from the sky. But what if this is it? What if apocalypse, in its truest meaning, is not the end of the world but an unravelling? A revelation. The slow and undeniable uncovering of where we are and what we have forgotten. In Apocalypse Now; Stewardship for the Future, I explore what might be asked of us now. If the world is changing around us, perhaps our task is not simply to survive it, but to remember how to belong again. To learn all we can. To preserve wisdom wherever we find it. To understand the old ways of being in relationship with land, story and season. To embody them. To become stewards rather than consumers. Because if something is ending, something else is asking to begin. This week on Nonsense in the Chaos, I climbed a tree. After finding myself peopled out and carrying the lingering sadness that can follow when alcohol leaves our closest relationships feeling a little bruised and out of tune, I spent the day perched among the branches, seeking refuge in the way I always have. From childhood memories of running away into nature and escaping the pressures of school, to reflections on the complicated dance of connection, solitude and belonging, this is an episode about finding your way back to yourself when life feels a little tangled. High in the canopy, I interview the tree I call Satine. Through three tarot cards, Satine offers her wisdom, and what begins as a playful conversation slowly unfolds into exactly the advice I needed to hear.
