Episode 378: Barry Coffing (Springboard Fest) [Washington DC]

Episode 378 features Barry Coffing of Springboard Fest. We (The Hollow Truths) will be playing Springboard East in Washington DC this Saturday at 1pm and I will also be featured on a podcast panel Thursday 8/13 at the convention! The conference is free to attend and if you are looking for new information and guidance on the music industry this is rare opportunity to come out and learn more about what you could be doing to improve your music career! Barry is a Houston raised songwriter, producer, and music industry entrepreneur who has spent decades on both sides of the glass. After cutting his teeth as a performing artist and jingle writer, he moved to Los Angeles and built a career placing over 200 of his own songs in film and television, including work tied to The Heights, California Dreams, and the number one hit How Do You Talk to an Angel. Today Barry runs Music Supervisor Inc., a licensing company that represents tens of thousands of labels and artists for film, TV, and advertising. He is also the founder of the Springboard Festivals, artist focused conferences and showcases (Springboard South, West, and beyond) that give independent musicians real mentorship, industry access, and a legitimate shot at the next level through Band Bootcamp and live performances. In this episode, Barry talks about building sustainable careers for artists, the difference between hype and real opportunity, and why platforms like Springboard still matter in a streaming dominated world. Brett Buehler (host) is the songwriter of the hollow truths based in Maryland.    Please follow, rate, or review the podcast wherever you are streaming if you’d like to help us out. Episode 377: Jenn's Apartment (Punk) [Lansing, MI]

Episode 377 features Jenn’s Apartment, an indie punk band from Lansing, Michigan. They have brand new music out right now. The band features Roy Kirby on guitar and vocals, Chris Davis on bass and vocals, and Justin Pine on drums and vocals originally formed in 2004, went on hiatus, and came back in 2014. They’ve kept the same lineup going strong ever since.  I featured their latest track “Summer” on this episode, as well as “Taylor Swift’s Dick.” Their sound mixes 90s alternative, early 2000s punk and emo, and straight-up rock songwriting with ringing guitars, big harmonies, and a tight rhythm section. Think The Replacements, Gaslight Anthem, Gin Blossoms, and Goo Goo Dolls with a solid Midwest DIY attitude. They’re known for high-energy live shows, funny stage banter, and just having a good time whether there are 5 people in the room or 500. Everything is DIY. They record in Justin’s basement, book their own shows, run their own label MiScene Records, and do it all on their own terms. Check them out at jennsapartment.net and stream their music wherever you listen. Thanks for listening and supporting local and independent artists.   Please follow, rate, or review the podcast wherever you are streaming if you’d like to help us out. Episode 375: The Viper Brothers (Rock Cover Band) [Howard County, MD]

Episode 375 features The Viper Brothers. The closer/headlining act for this year’s PTR Fest at Fish Head Cantina on July 18 (they hit the stage around 10 PM). They are longtime friends of mine and they even played my wedding recently. Joined by Josh, Jason, Tom, and Naomi (via video chat), we caught up on everything they’ve been up to lately. It was a fun, highly comedic conversation. Thanks for listening and for supporting local bands!   🎟️ PTR Fest Tickets are $10 at the door or available online. Episode 374: Brad Cox (Mouthful of Graffiti Podcast & Skitzo Calypso) [Bel Air, MD]

Episode 374 features Brad Cox of the Mouthful of Graffiti podcast and Skitzo Calypso. Brad is a longtime veteran of the Baltimore music scene and just like me he has been supporting local musicians through his podcast for years. I am excited to have him back on the bill for PTR Fest this year with his full band performing at 7pm on Saturday July 18th at Fish Head Cantina. It is going to be a great time and if you are in the area, we hope you can make it out. In our conversation we talked about everything he is doing in the music scene including Mouthful of Graffiti Live at REB Records in Bel Air which is now a quarterly event featuring local artists and live podcast recordings. We also name dropped a bunch of our friends in the scene including Will Sims and Rachel Novak who are both hosting their own local music podcasts. On this episode I featured Brads track Achamoth Its in the Way by Skitzo Calypso. If you like it you can stream it wherever you like to find music. Thanks for listening and supporting local music.
