PeppTalks with Jeanne Pepper
Sunny Stone is a multifaceted artist, producer, and filmmaker whose work is as profound as her journey of survival is resilient. Born in New York, Sunny’s early childhood was defined by unimaginable adversity. After being kidnapped and subsequently abandoned by her mother, who struggled with severe mental illness and substance addiction, Sunny and her older brother were forced to navigate a world that offered them little protection. At just three years old, they were placed in the care of a relative who treated them with cold indifference, forcing them to survive on the fringes of a home where they were permitted only to sleep. Between the ages of six and eight, Sunny endured further harrowing experiences as a survivor of physical abuse and commercial sexual exploitation, all while facing extreme malnutrition in Brooklyn.
