GBU Episode #100!

After countless conversations, controversial topics, unexpected connections, and more reflection than I anticipated, this episode is a look back at the journey of building this podcast — the good, the bad, and the ugly. In this episode, I talk honestly about what I hoped this podcast would become, where I feel it succeeded, where it fell short, and the reality of chasing growth and downloads in a niche profession like physical therapy. More importantly, I reflect on the people I’ve met, the conversations that mattered, and how this podcast ultimately gave me far more personally and professionally than any analytics page ever could. I also discuss the emotional side of content creation — burnout, comparison, validation through numbers, and realizing that sometimes a project simply runs its course. This likely isn’t goodbye forever, but it is probably the end of this chapter for now. And honestly, I’m at peace with that. To everyone who listened, shared an episode, sent a message, or joined me for the ride: thank you. Sometimes success isn’t building something massive. Sometimes it’s just building something honest.

GBU S2-E 47: The $100K Cap Era: How New Federal Student Loan Rules Will Reshape Physical Therapy

For years, becoming a physical therapist followed a predictable script: get into a DPT program, take on the loans, and trust that it would all work out on the back end. That script is changing—fast. In this episode, we break down how new federal student loan reforms—including graduate borrowing caps, the shift to a single income-driven repayment structure, and the tightening of forgiveness pathways—are set to fundamentally reshape the future of physical therapy. We dive into what these changes actually mean (without the policy jargon), and more importantly, how they impact the real-world math of a DPT degree: salary vs. debt. You’ll hear: * Why the era of “figure it out later” financing is coming to an end * How a ~$100K borrowing cap collides with $150K–$220K DPT price tags We also map out the likely future of the profession based on historical patterns in higher education: * Why tuition rarely drops—even under pressure * Why professions don’t rebalance neatly, but instead stratify * And why the most likely outcome isn’t correction—it’s separation Finally, we lay out a realistic 5-year financial survival model for new grads—covering job selection, repayment strategy, and the key decisions that determine whether you gain financial freedom or feel stuck. This isn’t just a student loan episode. It’s a conversation about how financial pressure shapes clinical decisions, career paths, and ultimately the future of the profession itself. If you’re a current PT, student, or considering the field, this episode will change how you think about the true cost—and value—of a DPT.

GBU S2-E46: Why Hiring Physical Therapists Has Become a Cluster F (and Nobody’s Explaining It Right).

Hiring physical therapists has become one of the most misunderstood and frustrating parts of the healthcare system—and both sides of the equation are feeling it. In this episode, we break down the real reasons clinics struggle to hire PTs, why strong salary offers still get turned down, and how a growing disconnect between employers and clinicians is shaping the entire profession. From productivity expectations and reimbursement realities to student debt, burnout, and job offer skepticism, we unpack what’s actually driving the breakdown in trust. This isn’t about blaming either side. It’s about exposing the gap between what PTs are being told—and what employers are actually dealing with behind the scenes. If you’re a physical therapist, clinic owner, or just curious why hiring in this field feels so chaotic right now, this episode pulls back the curtain on the entire system.

GBU S2-E45: 7 Things Physical Therapists Get Wrong—and How to Fix Them

What if some of the most common things physical therapists do every day… are actually holding their patients back? In this episode, we take a hard look at the habits, assumptions, and systems that are quietly limiting outcomes across the profession. From chasing pain and overvaluing imaging, to rigid protocols and productivity pressures—this is a breakdown of what PTs get wrong, and what needs to change. We cover: * Why treating pain directly often misses the real problem (especially in cases like Low Back Pain) * The disconnect between imaging findings and actual symptoms—and when it truly matters * How cookie-cutter programs ignore the individual sitting in front of you * Why the obsession with “perfect movement” can create fear instead of progress * The gap between pain science concepts like Central Sensitization and real-world application * How productivity demands shape clinical decisions more than we want to admit * And why load management—not just correction—is often the missing piece This isn’t about tearing down the profession—it’s about refining it. If you’re a clinician who’s tired of seeing patients plateau, or you’ve ever questioned why the “right” approach isn’t working, this episode will challenge the way you think—and how you treat.

GBU S2-E44: Revisiting Student Debt, and actionable steps to pay if off!

Student debt is one of the biggest financial burdens facing physical therapists today—and it doesn’t just disappear after your first job or a few years of payments. In this episode, we take a real, honest look at student loan debt from the perspective of a PT who has faced it head-on and made intentional moves to take control. This isn’t about theory or generic advice. It’s about what actually works. We revisit the mindset shifts that are required to stop feeling stuck and start making progress. From understanding your numbers clearly to identifying leaks in your finances, this episode breaks down the practical steps that can move the needle—no matter where you are in your career. You’ll hear actionable strategies on increasing income as a clinician, optimizing your repayment approach, and creating a plan that aligns with your long-term goals instead of just surviving month to month. We also dive into common mistakes PTs make with their loans and how to avoid them. Whether you’re just starting out with six figures of debt or you’ve been paying for years and feel like you’re not making progress, this episode will give you clarity, direction, and a path forward. If you’re ready to stop ignoring your loans and start attacking them with purpose, this conversation is for you.
