We have done nothing to deserve it all. It is all thanks to the love, grace and will of God through the power of the Holy Spirit. All we are called to do, is to respond with faith so that we can transformed to radiate that love and glory of God to others.  The Scriptures for this 2nd  sunday of Lent A remind us of this truth.  In the first reading Abram is called by God to respond in faith to God's instructions and informed that he will be blessed with greatness and in turn bless others. He had done nothing to deserve this. In the 2nd reading St Paul tells Timothy that part of the response to God's call is to endure suffering for the sake of the gospel, trusting not in our own power but that of God who has saved us. And in the gospel, Jesus is transfigured and commands his disciples not to tell anyone about what they had witnessed until after his resurrection. BE CAREFUL WHAT YOU SAY & DO: 6th Sunday OT A 2026

Send a text [https://www.buzzsprout.com/twilio/text_messages/224168/open_sms] Friends in Christ on this 6th Sunday of OT the word of God challenges us to go deeper in our faith. In the gospel Jesus tells us that true holiness does not start on the outside but deep down in our hearts. The gospel way is not about putting on a show that others can see that we are holy. Rather it is about quietly allowing our hearts to be transformed by God.  In the 1st reading by Ben Sirach, we are reminded that God offers us two choices, fire and water,  (death) & (life), good & evil. Our words, decisions and actions can either build life or cause harm. What we stretch our hand to take depends on us. In the 2nd reading St Paul distinguishes between the wisdom of this world and that of God. Only the Spirit of God can open our hearts to understand the wisdom of God which is hidden and mysterious.  Today friends, let us pray for the grace to allow the Holy Spirit to give us His wisdom to observe God's law in our hearts and live it out every day Support the show [https://www.buzzsprout.com/224168/support]

LET YOUR LIGHT SHINE. BE SALTY: 5th Sunday OT A 2026

Everywhere you look, people are calling attention to themselves in various ways - Facebook profiles, WhatsApp status, Instagram pics, tik tok videos, Twitter twits, you name it..  People want personal credit: likes, views, compliments -- for everything they do ---- for what they possess. People can be extremely selfish these days. They resist helping others who have less. They have no regard for those who are suffering economically.  And most tragically of all, many people have no idea what God expects of them - and why God created them in the first place!   The scriptures this Sunday tell us why we are here – and what is expected of us as God’s creation. They present a two-fold mission to the world, to be salt and to be light.  Is your salt salty and your light shining? If not then you are in the right place. LIGHT OF THE WORLD, JESUS: 3rd Sunday OT A (4 MINS)

Send a text [https://www.buzzsprout.com/twilio/text_messages/224168/open_sms] Brothers and sisters, the powerful image of Jesus as light runs through all the readings this Sunday. In the first reading the prophet Isaiah refers to Christ as the light that dispels the darkness of this world. The psalmist today says,The Lord is my light and my salvation.  St Paul in the 2nd reading advises the Corinthians to live as children of Light, steering clear of division and rivalry, things of darkness. St Matthew in the gospel wanted his readers to recognize that the Light of which Isaiah spoke had finally appeared with the coming of Jesus Christ. By His ministry of inviting people to His kingdom of peace through preaching, healing and calling people to repent, He is bringing them from darkness into light.  Friends to fully understand what Jesus is doing, lets reflect briefly on this question.  How do we see anything?  We can only see if there are two things present. Light and a healthy eye, or good eyesight.   Without Christ the light, we are in total darkness. We are spiritually blind and unable to see what we are, who we are and where we are going as pilgrims in this life. How do we respond to this light - Look at how Peter, Andrew, James and John responded when they entered the light -  They did not hold on to anything they had or knew. Instead they dropped everything, their livelihood, their culture, their plans, their hopes and basked in the light of Christ, reflecting it and like stars radiating this light -  pointing the way to Jesus, the true light.  Friends in Christ, we thank God for Jesus and pray for the grace like the disciples to radiate his light when we receive him in Holy communion, pointing our brothers to this Light - The eternal Light.  Support the show [https://www.buzzsprout.com/224168/support]
