Acerca de Rice on the Mics

Welcome to "Rice on the Mics", where sports talk comes with no script, no filter, and just the right amount of chaos. Hosted by Ian Rice, this is the spot for real fans who love the game but aren’t afraid to call out the bad takes, blown calls, and overpaid benchwarmers. Whether it's a legendary performance, a brutal choke job, or your fantasy team crashing and burning, we’re here to break it down like it’s last call at the bar. No corporate PR spin, no forced debates—just unfiltered sports talk with passion, personality, and maybe a little trash talk along the way. If you’re looking for stats read off a teleprompter, you’re in the wrong place. But if you want bold opinions, real conversations, and the kind of debates that might get a drink thrown at you, pull up a mic and let’s go.

Why the Jets and Giants Feel Different Entering the 2026 NFL Season

Send us Fan Mail [https://www.buzzsprout.com/2457648/fan_mail/new] New York football feels different heading into the 2026 NFL season, but now comes the real question: does different actually mean better? This episode looks at why the Jets and Giants both feel like they’re operating with more structure than usual. For the Giants, John Harbaugh changes the tone of the building, Joe Schoen gets a surprising extension, Malik Nabers’ injury status looms large, and the franchise is betting that stability can finally turn into results. For the Jets, Aaron Glenn and Darren Mougey appear to have a real plan in place. Breece Hall and Garrett Wilson sound bought in, Frank Reich gives the offense a more experienced voice, David Bailey brings new juice to the pass rush, and Cade Klubnik gives the quarterback room a developmental swing without forcing panic. Plus, quick thoughts on Aaron Rodgers’ final Steelers season, Joe Burrow’s Super Bowl expectations in Cincinnati, and a weekend watch board featuring Knicks-Cavs Game 3, Spurs-Thunder, Mets-Marlins, and Yankees-Rays.

I Just Watched the Garden Come Back From the Dead

Send us Fan Mail [https://www.buzzsprout.com/2457648/fan_mail/new] The Knicks were dead. The Garden was quiet. The Cavs had a 22-point fourth-quarter lead and looked like they were walking out of Madison Square Garden with Game 1. Then Jalen Brunson happened. In this episode, I react to one of the greatest Knicks games I’ve ever watched: New York’s insane 115-104 overtime comeback over Cleveland in Game 1 of the Eastern Conference Finals. We get into Brunson putting the team on his back, the Garden coming back to life, Landry Shamet’s huge fourth-quarter minutes, Cleveland’s collapse, and why this Knicks team feels absolutely unkillable. I also touch on what the Knicks need to clean up for Game 2, why their shooting rhythm is the biggest thing to watch, and take a quick trip around the NBA with Wemby’s monster Game 1 against OKC and Jason Kidd being out in Dallas. Some wins count once in the standings and forever in the fanbase. This was one of those. Follow the show: @RiceontheRadio

episode The Mets won the World Series artwork

The Mets won the World Series

Send us Fan Mail [https://www.buzzsprout.com/2457648/fan_mail/new] The Mets won the World Series. Not the real one. Relax. But after taking two out of three from the Yankees at Citi Field, Mets fans finally got the kind of Subway Series weekend they were starving for. Friday looked like more of the same after Cam Schlittler shoved and Clay Holmes went down with a fractured fibula. Then Saturday changed the tone when Luke Weaver escaped a bases-loaded, nobody-out jam against his former team. By Sunday, Tyrone Taylor was sending Citi Field into chaos with a game-tying three-run homer, and Carson Benge was walking it off in extra innings. This episode kicks off the new shorter format: one main story, one real conversation, and a tighter sports-radio feel. The Mets didn’t fix their whole season. The Yankees aren’t suddenly broken. But rivalry weekends are supposed to feel like something, and this one did. Follow the show on Instagram: @RiceontheRadio

episode New York Sports Has Reached The Hard Part artwork

New York Sports Has Reached The Hard Part

Send us Fan Mail [https://www.buzzsprout.com/2457648/fan_mail/new] New York sports has reached the hard part. Episode 65 of Rice on the Mics is all about what happens after belief shows up. The Knicks look like the best team left in the East and maybe the best team left in the whole damn thing, but now they have to prove they can carry that weight. Jalen Brunson, KAT, Mikal Bridges, OG Anunoby, Mitchell Robinson, and Mike Brown all have this team feeling different, and for once, Knicks fans are not crazy for believing. Then we get into the Mets, where the kids have made things interesting again. Nolan McLean, Carson Benge, and A.J. Ewing have brought real energy to a team that was dangerously close to becoming irrelevant. One good week does not erase the math, but it does give fans a reason to keep watching. The Yankees are still the Yankees, but the warning lights are blinking heading into the Subway Series. Max Fried’s elbow, José Caballero’s injury, Anthony Volpe stepping back into the fire, and some cold bats have made this weekend feel bigger than just another Mets-Yankees matchup. Then we wrap with Giants and Jets schedule talk. John Harbaugh raises the floor for Big Blue, Aaron Glenn has a chance to change the temperature for the Jets, and both teams land in a familiar but more respectable place: better, tougher, more serious, but still not quite there yet. Plus, a programming note on where the show is headed next: shorter, sport-specific episodes throughout the week and the slow transition toward Rice on the Radio. episode Now We Find Out artwork

Now We Find Out

Send us Fan Mail [https://www.buzzsprout.com/2457648/fan_mail/new] Episode 64: Now We Find Out The noise is over. The brochure is over. Now we find out who these teams really are. This week on Rice on the Mics, Ian opens with the Jets and Giants after an offseason full of big swings, new identities, and cautious optimism. The Giants look tougher under John Harbaugh, but contender talk needs to slow down. The Jets finally look like they have a plan, but Jets fans know better than to celebrate May football. Then it’s Knicks time. New York is up 2-0 on the 76ers, Jalen Brunson keeps closing games like the adult in the room, and the bar has officially changed. Finals or disappointment? Ian says yes. But OG Anunoby’s injury adds a real cloud over the series as it shifts to Philadelphia. In baseball, Ian pays tribute to the late John Sterling, a true voice of New York sports, before giving the Yankees their flowers for looking like a monster in the making. Across town, the Mets are giving fans just enough hope to keep watching, but not enough peace to relax. Plus: Rangers lottery pain, weird injury news around baseball, and the bigger theme of the week: eventually, the conversation has to become real. Episode 64 of Rice on the Mics: Now We Find Out.
