“A depleted woman cannot pour from an empty cup.” That is the lesson I had to learn during my cancer treatment. Even before I got my cancer diagnosis, I was depleted, and I didn’t have anything left to give. I needed to learn how to depend on myself. And those are two totally different things. I knew that I could run myself ragged taking care of everyone else. All the chores could be done, and everyone else could be taken care of - but not me. I was not taken care of because I wasn’t caring for myself. That’s not depending on myself, that was sacrificing myself, and I cannot afford to do it again. So I won’t! In this week’s episode, we’re talking about the three pillars of self-care I refuse to live without. As a cancer survivor who has recently graduated from treatment (whoohoo!), I’ve been thinking more and more about my health. I neglected my health to be a good Cuban daughter and take care of my family, and that was detrimental to both me and everyone else around me. Because of that, I now have three pillars of self-care that not only keep me healthy, but keep me sane. Tune in to hear what my three pillars of health are, and why real self-care is so important for the Latina community!
