Descripción

Setting boundaries was the best thing I could do for myself during my cancer treatment. Setting boundaries for me meant that I didn’t overextend myself during treatment. It allowed me to have the peace of mind I needed to get better.  But, for Latina women, trying to set boundaries with their families can sound like, “I hate you, and your love, and all your new treatment ideas.” Which is not what we’re doing AT ALL. So, how do we create a peaceful environment for healing while also managing our family's expectations?  In this week’s episode, we’re talking about how to protect your peace during treatment and survivorship. You need to protect your peace during this time, and I am giving you permission to do so. I have a ton of resources and tips for you in this week’s episode, so if you’ve felt like this was a daunting task on top of everything else, I’ve got your back.  Tune in to hear how I’ve protected my peace and set boundaries with my loved ones during my cancer recovery treatment and beyond.  Work with Eileen: Book your free consultation call to find out more about Eileen’s EcoSystem of Healing Coaching Package here!  [https://app.paperbell.com/checkout/packages/204037] Follow Eileen on: Instagram: @eileen_lopez_tome_coach [https://www.instagram.com/eileen_lopez_tome_coach/] LinkedIn: Eileen Lopez Tome [https://www.linkedin.com/in/eileen-l-7a0849387/] Watch this episode on YouTube! @EileenLopezTome [https://www.youtube.com/@EileenLopezTome]  Podcast production for this episode was provided by CCST, an Afro-Latina-owned boutique podcast production and copywriting studio.  [https://www.sarahtullochwrites.com/podcast-production]

EP. 10:  Freedom Flights, When to Defer to Doctors, and Self-Advocacy

When was the last time you talked back to a doctor? I KNOW! It sounds almost sacrilegious to question a doctor. But what if I told you that you had to do it to get the best possible treatment?  As a cancer survivor and a coach, I see so many other cancer survivors bite their tongues about wanting a second opinion or wanting to eat their cultural foods. Nevertheless, it’s time to start honoring your needs and voicing your opinions. Because if you don’t advocate for yourself, no one will. In this week’s episode, we’re talking about freedom flights, when to defer to doctors, and self-advocacy. There’s a high correlation between the Cuban-American experience and the urge to defer to your doctors. But ignoring your gut feelings can cost you your health or, in the worst-case scenario, your time with your loved ones.  Tune in to hear why I regret not asking for a second opinion during my dad’s cancer treatment and how I advocate for myself and my clients.  Work with Eileen: Book your free consultation call to find out more about Eileen’s EcoSystem of Healing Coaching Package here!  [https://app.paperbell.com/checkout/packages/204037] Follow Eileen on: Instagram: @eileen_lopez_tome_coach [https://www.instagram.com/eileen_lopez_tome_coach/] LinkedIn: Eileen Lopez Tome [https://www.linkedin.com/in/eileen-l-7a0849387/] Watch this episode on YouTube! @EileenLopezTome [https://www.youtube.com/@EileenLopezTome]  Podcast production for this episode was provided by CCST, an Afro-Latina-owned boutique podcast production and copywriting studio.  [https://www.sarahtullochwrites.com/podcast-production]

EP. 9: How I Live a Life of Service Without Self-Sacrificing (Again)

What does a life of service look like to you? For many of us in the Latina community, it means giving up everything we are for the good of others. That can mean burning yourself out, ignoring your health, and giving up your personal dreams to take care of others. We were taught that that is a very noble way of living. But in actuality, it’s causing us unnecessary harm.  You don’t need to choose between yourself and a life of service. So many of us are called to serve, whether for our families, our countries, or others. But that doesn’t mean you have to harm yourself to do a good job at serving. Because if there’s one thing I’ve learned, it's that you cannot pour from an empty cup. In this week’s episode, we’re talking about how I live a life of service without self-sacrificing (again). I say again because I did self-sacrifice, a lot. To the point where I developed stage 3 breast cancer and didn’t even know it. No one would ask me to give up my health in order to serve my family or my country, but I did anyway, and I won’t be doing it again.  Tune in for a deep dive into my career in service and how I honor my calling to service without self-sacrifice. EP. 8: The Three Pillars of Self-Care I Refuse to Live Without

“A depleted woman cannot pour from an empty cup.”  That is the lesson I had to learn during my cancer treatment. Even before I got my cancer diagnosis, I was depleted, and I didn’t have anything left to give. I needed to learn how to depend on myself. And those are two totally different things.  I knew that I could run myself ragged taking care of everyone else. All the chores could be done, and everyone else could be taken care of - but not me. I was not taken care of because I wasn’t caring for myself. That’s not depending on myself, that was sacrificing myself, and I cannot afford to do it again. So I won’t! In this week’s episode, we’re talking about the three pillars of self-care I refuse to live without. As a cancer survivor who has recently graduated from treatment (whoohoo!), I’ve been thinking more and more about my health. I neglected my health to be a good Cuban daughter and take care of my family, and that was detrimental to both me and everyone else around me. Because of that, I now have three pillars of self-care that not only keep me healthy, but keep me sane.  Tune in to hear what my three pillars of health are, and why real self-care is so important for the Latina community! EP. 7: How to Rediscover Your Identity After Your Cancer Diagnosis

Identity work is a huge part of my coaching program because of how much it affects my clients. The hospital typically handles all aspects of your physical treatment. But there’s no treatment plan for how cancer affects your inner self. There definitely wasn’t one when I was diagnosed! Which is why I made one for survivors who need it and perfected it over the last few years.  Cancer doesn’t care if you’re the strong one or the one everyone depends on. Cancer didn’t care that I was neglecting myself so that I could be a good Cuban daughter. But cancer did become the catalyst I needed to make healthier changes in my life and reconnect with who I’ve always been.  In this week’s episode, we’re talking about how to rediscover your identity after your cancer diagnosis. This episode is full of journal prompts, so bust out your favorite notebook and find a cute pen because we are digging deep! Tune in to hear how to identify the identities we held on to before cancer diagnosis and discover who we want to be now.  And don’t worry! We’re going to work through this together.  Work with Eileen: Book your free consultation call to find out more about Eileen’s EcoSystem of Healing Coaching Package here!  [https://app.paperbell.com/checkout/packages/204037] Follow Eileen on: https://www.instagram.com/eileen_lopez_tome_coach/ Instagram: @eileen_lopez_tome_coach [https://www.instagram.com/eileen_lopez_tome_coach/] LinkedIn: Eileen Lopez Tome [https://www.linkedin.com/in/eileen-l-7a0849387/] Watch this episode on YouTube! @EileenLopezTome [https://www.youtube.com/@EileenLopezTome]  Podcast production for this episode was provided by CCST, an Afro-Latina-owned boutique podcast production and copywriting studio.  [https://www.sarahtullochwrites.com/podcast-production]
