Sleep Story for Coping with Grief and Loss | After the Storm | A Journey Through Open Farmland
This story is for anyone who has gone through a personal storm and is still here. If you know someone who has experienced a loss and could use some rest, please share this with them.
Welcome to Sleep In Color Stories — a sanctuary for calm, imagination, and gentle dreams.
After the Storm is a sleep story set in open farmland in the immediate aftermath of a storm. The rain has just stopped. The world is dripping, luminous, and changed. The ancient oak at the field's edge is missing a branch, the sky is breaking open above the bent grass, the blackbird is returning to the hawthorn as the weather moves away.
You walk through it. Slowly, with the full weight of what you carry. Past the fallen branch and the raw wound in the bark. Through the field in its clearing light. To a place in the long grass near the stone wall where the earth is soft enough to receive you, and you lie down, and the sky above you continues its patient work of clearing.
The storm in this story is a metaphor for loss — the grief of a person, a relationship, a version of a life. The farmland aftermath is a meditation on survival — what it means to stand in the world after something large has moved through it and rearranged what you knew, and find the world still there, the earth still solid, the birds still returning, the sky still clearing above the dark cloud of the departing weather.
This story does not offer resolution. It offers what the field offers: evidence that life continues, that beauty returns, that the capacity for both was there during the storm too.
