Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 (also referenced with the stylized title Modern Warfare 사, utilizing the Korean character for the number four) is an upcoming first-person shooter scheduled for release on October 23, 2026. The game will be available on PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and the Nintendo Switch 2. The development team is officially leaving behind older consoles like the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One to ensure the game engine can take full advantage of current-generation hardware without being hindered by past technical limitations. The single-player campaign aims for a dark, gritty, and realistic tone, centered around a fictional, full-scale North Korean invasion of South Korea that threatens to ignite a global conflict. The narrative rotates across three primary perspectives: a young South Korean conscript named Private Park who is thrust into a chaotic war on his first day of service, a member of the North Korean dictatorship, and series mainstay Captain Price. Following the events of the previous game, Price is now operating outside the standard military system, running a rogue alliance separate from his usual Task Force 141. While the Korean Peninsula is the main setting, the story will also take players to global locations including New York, Paris, and Mumbai. The game’s multiplayer features significant mechanical overhauls designed to improve game feel and fluidity. The movement system has been completely rebuilt to preserve momentum; players can now strafe while mantling and transition seamlessly from a climb straight into a slide. Gunplay introduces a "Ballistic Authority" system that removes randomized weapon bloom entirely, ensuring highly accurate bullet trajectories without guesswork. On day one, multiplayer will feature 12 brand-new 6v6 maps, larger maps for infantry and vehicle warfare, and the return of the Gun Game mode, which will take place on unique maps featuring shifting, randomized layouts.Additionally, the extraction shooter mode known as DMZ will return as a fully developed sandbox experience. Set chronologically after the campaign, DMZ will allow solo players or squads to drop into a volatile conflict zone with dynamic weather and military objectives to loot, fight, and extract advanced weaponry. For PC players, the game will feature extensive optimization and graphical customization. The engine improvements include advanced ray-tracing, better shadows, and volumetric effects, as well as support for frame generation and upscaling tech like Nvidia's DLSS 4.5. The PC version will also include specific competitive settings to help players maximize their frame rates during intense multiplayer matches.
